Volunteer Driver

Description

Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity are looking for volunteer drivers to support with collections and deliveries of items for our Buchanan Galleries Shop and to support with any other ad-hoc driving tasks. Use of our charity van will be provided and manual handling training given.

Volunteers will be part of a team and be contacted when a collection or delivery is required, this is a flexible role where you can choose when you are available to support.

This opportunity will include some heavy lifting.

Organisation aims and objectives

Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity raises funds to support young patients, their families and the NHS heroes who care for them at Scotland’s largest children’s hospital. Money raised through donations, fundraising and volunteering helps to fund our life-changing projects and support services including our hospital Play Programme, Family Support and Bereavement Services, Medical Equipment, Paediatric Research and support for NHS staff.

Oshay’s Centre is the home of Oshay's Brain Domains CIC which focuses on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) education and advocacy. It provides education to professionals, schools, parents, and children about what FASD is and how it affects individuals’ brains and those around them. Oshay’s also offers resources and a sense of community to empower and support families and professionals working with individuals with brain-based disabilities. Additionally, our work extends to supporting various neurodiverse conditions like ADHD, Trauma, Autism, Dyspraxia, and Dyslexia, falling under the umbrella of “Neurodiversity.” Additionally, we have recently launched a much needed Child Contact, Mediation and Counselling Service within our Centre. Oshay’s are looking for Volunteer Drivers to pick up and drop off children/parents/carers at our Centre in Ayr and at community venues for supervised and supported family contact sessions. Volunteer drivers would require to use their own cars (Business Insurance required). Volunteer Driver

Our van drivers assist on waste wood collections from trade and domestic customers, as well as dropping off customer orders of timber and upcycled furniture. Volunteers must be physically capable, as some heavy lifting of timber on and off the collection vans will also be required. Based at our workshop in Granton, you will be an integral part of our friendly and supportive team of staff, volunteers and trainees.

Volunteer Driver

If you have spare time any weekday and a car, we are looking for new Volunteer Drivers who can take local Lanarkshire Cancer Patients to and from their hospital and clinic appointments. We can repay your fuel expenses at a rate of 45p per mile. Your role will be to drive patients and any escort only. You will be asked for your availability by our office staff and given plenty of notice as to when and where a patient’s appointment will take place. Our drivers agree a pick-up time with the patient the night before and will either drop them off or bring them home if their treatment is a short one. For longer treatment times, drivers will be asked to either drop the patients off or be asked if they are available to pick them up later if their time allows.

Thank you for your interest in our Driver Volunteer Role. Ayrshire Cancer Support has operated since 1982, providing emotional support and practical help to those affected by cancer in Ayrshire. Our Volunteers make a vital contribution, by enabling the continuation of the support we offer. Kind, Caring, Compassionate? If you have a full driving licence, have a 4 or 5 door car, and have some time to spare, you can make a real difference by transporting cancer patients within Ayrshire to and from various hospitals, locally and in Greater Glasgow for treatment. Our service users are required to attend appointments at a wide range of times, generally between 9.00am and 5.00pm, Monday to Friday. Our Driver Volunteers…  Enjoy interacting with people.  Are supportive, non-judgemental and accepting of others.  Provide warmth, sensitivity and a willingness to listen.  Display patience and understanding.  Understand the importance of confidentiality and providing a regular commitment.  Contribute to the valuable services provided by Ayrshire Cancer Support We ask our Drivers to…  Undertake training relevant to the role – which includes shadowing a Driver Volunteer.  Adhere to the policies and procedures of ACS.  Safely transport patients from their homes to hospital and back at pre-arranged times. No formal patient transport experience or skills are required, however, a valid Driving Licence held for a minimum of 5 years is essential. You will be eligible to claim expenses for associated mileage whilst volunteering when using your own vehicle, in line with current HMRC allowances.
