Description

Grandmentors is an award winning inter-generational mentoring programme, matching volunteer mentors (normally but not exclusively those aged 50+) who have a range of life skills and experiences, with young people aged 16-26 who are care experienced or who have "adverse childhood experiences". Grandmentors has now launched in Perth and Kinross in 2022 for the first time!

Our volunteer mentors help young people navigate the transition to independence into adulthood, by guiding them through life skills such as managing finances, accessing employment, education and training, and supporting their health and wellbeing.

This opportunity is for volunteers (normally aged 50+) who have life experience and skills to offer. However, if you are younger than 50 and feel you could offer valuable support, please do apply or contact us to discuss further.

It is important that you have good people skills, communication skills, patience, and can offer a regular commitment of a few hours per week (weekly or fortnightly). This role requires a PVG check which we will process for you after you apply to become a mentor.

We provide our volunteers with comprehensive induction training, all on-going support, volunteer expenses and lots of other great benefits including the chance to make a difference to a young adult in need.

Experience required: We are seeking life skills and experience - no professional experience required. We provide all induction and ongoing training.

Grandmentors facilitate conversations around keeping well, coping strategies, self-care, and self-management. Each young person alongside their Grandmentor co-produces a bespoke support plan and set goals based on their needs. They explore and review the young person’s challenges, and priorities. These range from enhancing mental & physical health and wellbeing, dealing with stress and conflict, support to access sustainable and appropriate housing, career, and education goals, budget planning and more.

We are currently looking for new Volunteer Mentors to join our programme in Midlothian which launched in 2023. We recruit, train and support Volunteer Mentors (normally but not always aged 50+) who use their life experience and skills to support young adults (aged 16-26) on their pathway to adulthood. Grandmentors is all about positive and empowering relationships. Young people taking part in the project benefit from safe, consistent relationships, and access to meaningful support to boost their mental & physical wellbeing, resilience, and confidence. Mentors support young people with their physical and mental health and wellbeing, help to access Education, Employment or Training, or around their Housing and Finance goals. Our Volunteer Mentors receive all relevant training, on-going help and support from the project, as well as being reimbursed for the costs of any travel or general expenses incurred. Family Support Volunteer

Can you spare 1/2 hours per week to support families within Edinburgh? Volunteering Matters are a national volunteering charity. We are looking for "Family Support" Volunteers in the City of Edinburgh, who can offer practical, social and emotional support to a local family in need. Our Family Supporters programme recruits, trains and supports volunteers, matching them 1:1 with parents and families facing a range of life challenges and barriers. Volunteers help families, spending 1:1 time together on a personalised set of goals chosen by the family, for the family. Volunteer Mentor (Midlothian)

Could you offer an hour per week, to support a young adult in Midlothian? "Grandmentors" is an award winning mentoring programme, matching Volunteer Mentors who have a range of life skills and experience, with young adults aged 16-26 who are care experienced or who face a range of other life challenges or barriers. Grandmentors launched in Midlothian in 2023. Our Volunteer Mentors help young adults to navigate the transition into adulthood, guiding and helping them learn valuable life skills such as managing their finances, accessing Employment, Education and Training, and supporting their physical and mental health and wellbeing. Normally our Volunteer Mentors are aged 50+ and have skills and life experience to offer. However, if you are younger than 50 and feel you could offer time to support a younger adult, we would love to hear from you too! It is important that you have good people and communication skills, patience, and can offer a regular commitment of at least an hour per week (or a couple of hours per fortnight).
