For people leaving hospital, adjusting to life at home can be a difficult time. As a British Red Cross Phone Support Volunteer, you will support patients and service users by offering emotional support over the phone; signposting them to specialist services or further support, and liaising with the service coordinator to keep accurate information on the tasks given.

This is a home based role.

We are looking for someone who is:

available at least 2 hours per week between Monday to Friday from 11:00 till 16:00.
have access to their phone/laptop/computer for making phone calls and checking emails.
Live West of Scotland
Be able to commit to a minimum of 6 months

What you will be doing
Making outgoing phone calls to service users referred to the service
Offering reassurance and emotional support to service users; actively listening to their situation and checking in on their wellbeing
Signposting service users to partner agencies or specialist services as appropriate
Being aware of the potential for the need to escalate a safeguarding concern to colleagues
Ensuring that all personal data is kept safe and used appropriately
The skills you need
Able to adopt a person-centred approach
Able to support any service user in a calm, empathetic and reflective manner, creating a safe and open space
Reliable and able to consistently follow processes that relate to the role

Frequency and commitment details

One half day a week with a commitment of 6 months or longer

Experience required: Warm and friendly with empathy for others. Good communication skills. Encouraging and supportive. Can work independently and as a part of a team.
