Description

The tasks of an Instructor include but are not restricted to the following:
Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of Children and Young People for whom they are responsible.
Delivering instruction and training to cadets aged 10-18.
Attending Parade Nights (Tuesdays and Fridays 6.45-9.30pm) or being able to commit to a particular night each week.
There are free training courses available for you to develop new skills, boost your CV and support you in this role.

Organisation aims and objectives

The aim of Leith Sea Cadets is to equip young people with the skills they need for life. We help young people develop teamwork, leadership, determination, resilience and confidence - all essential skills! We follow the rank structure of the Royal Navy, but most importantly, we have FUN!

The minimum time commitment is attending 1 parade night per week either on a Tuesday or Friday evening 6.45-9.30pm. However, attending both nights per week would be ideal.

Restrictions

Experience required: There are no specific experience requirements for this role; having the right attitude and a passion for improving the lives of young people are the most important things! Being reliable, trustworthy, enthusiastic, a good communicator, team player and role model are very important.
Travel details: All Volunteer Sea Cadet Instructors work directly with young people at the Unit. Leith Sea Cadet's Unit address is Prince of Wales Dock, Leith Docks, Ocean Dr, Edinburgh EH6 7DX.

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: If volunteer instructors attend courses or weekend events, then their travel, and sometimes food expenses, will be reimbursed. Volunteers claim for these through our online App FinanSys.
Training details: Regardless of which role you have, all Adult Volunteers join us on a probationary basis with an induction, which includes: • Completion of an Adult Application Form • 2 x References (depending on the chosen role) • Disclosure Scotland Check. • 3 x Online Learning Modules; Data Protection, Health & Safety and Safeguarding Awareness. • Online Induction (7x Online Modules) to be completed over 6 months at your own pace. • Online Safeguarding Workshop (this is a virtual course carried out on a weekend evening for approximately 3 hours).
