Community Volunteer - Shopping and prescription Service

Description

We are looking for dedicated volunteers to help with our shopping and prescription service. This essential service ensures that those struggling to get out the house or who aren’t fully able to get a shop for themselves can get a weekly shop and maintain independence and have agency of their own shopping. Volunteers will be added to a Whatsapp group where call outs will be made for the shops that week. If the volunteer is available then they offer to do the shop and a member of staff will email the service users details and shopping list, the volunteer with then do the shopping then deliver it the service users’ home then you will be reimbursed for the shop and your millage. This is role is perfect for anyone who wants to help out and make a difference but can’t commit to set weekly time slots.

Organisation aims and objectives

Healthy and Active in East Kilbride (formerly Older and Active in East Kilbride), a registered charity, has been based within East Kilbride Town Centre since 2003. Over the past couple of years they have introduced new services which all have the main aim of providing services which help people with disabilities and encourage active ageing, maintaining independence, remaining included within their own community and enjoy a good qualify of life, health and wellbeing. The service is available 7 days per week, 52 weeks of the year.

Restrictions

No Gender Restriction, UK drivers License or able to get from shop/pharmacy with goods to the service users home. Someone who doesn’t mind traveling to different parts of East Kilbride.

Travel details: The opportunity takes place at multiple location across South Lanarkshire East Kilbride

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: The volunteer will fill out a monthly expenses sheet for petrol/diesel and will be be reimbursed 45p per litre.
Training details: We will go through 4 week in duction period, with regular calls and check ins.

Tea Party Drivers

Do you have a couple of hours a month to help drive older people to tea parties? We are looking for help across Moray with our Tea Parties. We have tea parties that are run for our older members of the community to help combat isolation and loneliness, Our groups are there to share a friendly conversation over a cup of tea or with a slice of cake. We are just looking for a friendly and patient volunteer to help one or two guests to the hosted tea party and home again. You are of course invited to stay and take part in the tea party as well. No experience necessary just that you are able to drive and can co-ordinate with our group organisers to help get our guests to and from the tea party. This is well suited to busy schedules since this is once a month and can be fit around your own availability. Tea party driver

Our tea party drivers are a vital part of the Re-engage team. Tea parties provide a lifeline of friendship for our older people, and the regular, warm, friendly chats and companionship provide a vital link with the outside world from which they have become isolated. Drivers take older people to the parties and stay with them to enjoy the get-together. Over time, drivers and older guests get to know each other well and together you will spend many hours full of fun, laughter, and stories. As a tea party driver, you liaise with your group coordinator and take older guests to and from the tea parties each month. Staying at the tea party is part of your role, so it’s much more than being a driver. You will need to have a full, clean, driving license, and a PVG. You will also need to check that you are covered by your regular motor insurance policy to do this role. Tasks include: • Driving one to two older guests using your own car to a tea party venue and returning them home again after the event . • Staying at the tea party to help with conversation and serve refreshments. • Liaising with the group coordinator to confirm which older guests you will pick up. • Informing the group coordinator of any safeguarding concerns or issues you might have. • Following all guidance in your driver training modules to ensure that the tea parties are enjoyable, appropriate, and in line with our charitable aims. No experience necessary however we are looking for drivers with the following skills and attributes: • Organised • Good conversational skills • Considerate driving ability • Ability to navigate to new addresses • A friendly, and empathetic approach • Patience and understanding of supporting older people • Basic computer literacy (including the ability to use emails) This is a flexible, voluntary role that can easily be fitted in around your own lifestyle and availability.

Delivery Driver

The Food Train is an award-winning charity which operates throughout Scotland, supporting older people in local communities to remain living in their own home, as independently as possible. Our driver volunteers drive our small vans with another volunteer helper beside you, delivering grocery shopping to older people in the local community. Our shopping service members are so grateful for this service, which is a lifeline for many and an important source of social contact, as much as providing access to food and helping our members live longer and more independently in their own homes. This is a great way to use your spare time to help older people in your local community! The role involves: - Driving a medium sized van, following a delivery route with a volunteer helper. - Delivering food shopping to older people in the Falkirk area. - Loading and unloading small grocery boxes. - Assisting with putting away shopping in people's homes. - Completing a small amount of paperwork. - Either meeting the Food Train van at the supermarket or collecting it from the Food Train Falkirk office in the morning (we have arrangements so you can leave your car free of charge). Volunteer Drivers

Volunteers required to drive a 17-seater minibus for an over 50s walking group based at Kaimhill Learning Centre, Pitmedden Terrace, Aberdeen AB10 7HR. Drivers should be over 25 and under 70 and have category D1 on their driving licence. We are a friendly group who walk on Thursdays leaving the centre at 9.30am and usually return around mid afternoon. We normally walk between 5 and 7 miles and most drivers in the past have been happy to walk with the group but this is not a requirement! Prospective volunteers will be given support to familiarise themselves with the vehicle and are welcome to come along on a walk to see what is involved. A fantastic opportunity to help.
