We are looking for volunteers! This is a great opportunity to build on your skills and experience to help the work of a small charity in South Lanarkshire.

Headway South Lanarkshire exists to provide support, information and referrals for people with an acquired brain injury. We aim to reduce social isolation increase access to information and referral information and empower people with an ABI to have more control over their lives.

Duties include:
• To arrange appropriate food and beverages in advance of the group
(specifics will be provided)
• Setting up and clearing away for the group
• Arrange activities for the group and source materials
• To distribute literature from Headway UK to members including
competitions and information

No experience required, just dedication and enthusiasm. Outgoing, friendly, and proactive character. Enjoy partnership and development work. Approachable and friendly. Ability to work on own using initiative at times.

Organisation aims and objectives

Headway, the brain injury association is a charity set up to give help and support to people affected by brain injury. Headway aims to promote understanding of all aspects of brain injury and to provide information, support and services to people with a brain injury and their family and friends. Headway South Lanarkshire meet every Tuesday in the Burnbank Centre in Hamilton, between 6.00pm - 8.00pm. Activities include Art/Crafts, Holidays/Outings and Service User Groups.

Volunteer Project Assistant - Food Growing Group

We are looking for two enthusiastic, organised and thoughtful people to support our Volunteer Coordinator to run the weekly gardening group. This new project for the Alexandra Park Food Forest aims to support local residents to improve their mental health through spending time outdoors learning new skills in a friendly environment. The two Project Assistants would be asked to support the members of the group to feel confident in the gardening tasks. To help set up tools and equipment and workshop materials and lunch. To care for the workshop spaces and to be aware of access and health and safety needs. Also, to take photos and note stories for social media. We would love the two Project Assistants to join every week for several months, to gain confidence in the site and the activities and build great team work in the gardening group. The group will meet every Thursday from 10am - 3pm, from April through to November at the Alexandra Park Food Forest and Kitchen Garden in Alexandra Park, close to the Sports Hub within the park. Support Session Volunteer

Could you support unpaid carers or people with disabilities to access benefits? Could you help someone find local services? Could you help someone understand the information they have been given about their care and support? Could you support or lead a group of people on a topic of interest? You could help improve the quality of someone’s life. This role is ideal for social work students, an interest in the care sector or retired professionals. Support Session Volunteers help our clients with general advocacy, supporting people with a variety of challenges. This helps us to reduce waitlists and support more individuals by: • Helping clients understand about advocacy • Supporting clients to self-advocate with our tool kits • Signposting clients to other services where required • Supporting the service to deliver “collective” advocacy sessions • Light Touch Advocacy • Supporting advocates with casework • Promotion of services and the organisation • Logging activity onto our systems Volunteer, Ben’s priorities changed after a serious illness. “I wanted to give something back.
