We offer free transport to cancer patients and where possible their escort to all hospitals and clinics in Glasgow, Edinburgh and throughout Ayrshire. Patients are collected from their homes, accompanied to hospital and taken home again after treatment. This service is especially useful for patients who feel unwell, those living in rural areas, the elderly and parents taking their children for treatment. We also provide transport for the hospice and to appointments for all therapy sessions. We can only ensure to continue the service with the support of our volunteer drivers. If you can commit to a few hours of driving and waiting for patients every week or fortnight or every month, please consider volunteering with us. To safeguard both service users and drivers, we require all volunteers to be PVG checked and we do require volunteers to own a vehicle (MOT & insured) and have a clean valid driving license. We will reimburse mileage expenses for volunteers.

Volunteers required to drive a 17-seater minibus for an over 50s walking group based at Kaimhill Learning Centre, Pitmedden Terrace, Aberdeen AB10 7HR. Drivers should be over 25 and under 70 and have category D1 on their driving licence. We are a friendly group who walk on Thursdays leaving the centre at 9.30am and usually return around mid afternoon. We normally walk between 5 and 7 miles and most drivers in the past have been happy to walk with the group but this is not a requirement! Prospective volunteers will be given support to familiarise themselves with the vehicle and are welcome to come along on a walk to see what is involved. A fantastic opportunity to help. Or perhaps you already have some experience and want to contribute in another way… Sacro’s Travel Service in Edinburgh is recruiting for more volunteer drivers. The Travel Service aims to provide a regular transport service to many of Scotland’s prisons and the State Hospital at Carstairs. The service is part of Sacro’s Throughcare Service enabling prisoners to maintain important contact with their families and friends which research has shown helps to reduce reoffending. We pick up our registered passengers from their home address and take them to their arranged visit before returning them home again completely free of charge. Sacro’s work could not be successfully conducted without the dedication and skill of its volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering with us, we would ask you to be able to commit to volunteering for at least a year and be regularly available. We reimburse our volunteer drivers for their mileage at a rate of 50p per mile.
