Description

Food Train is an award-winning charity providing services to older people who are no longer able to manage independently, through age, ill health, frailty or disability. The aim of Food Train Friends is to improve quality of life for our members, by providing them with a befriending service on a regular basis. Volunteers provide a consistent and reliable support to help customers experience social interaction on a regular basis.
Be able to attend at flexible hours and various locations as the service requires .
Provide an effective befriending service for your befriendee (either on the telephone, in their homes or on group outings/activities) • Spend time with your befriendee and simply chat, listen and discuss various topics • Make the service, events attended and conversations interesting and fun • Be reliable and presentable • Provide monitoring and reporting information as required on time spent and activities with the befriendee to the project staff • Attend volunteer meetings, training events and 1-2-1 updates with service staff.

Organisation aims and objectives

Our aim is to support older people to live independently at home. Our preventative services address the difficulty older people face getting their weekly grocery shopping, doing jobs around the house and the growing isolation that comes with failing health. We also aim to provide a wide range of supported volunteering opportunities for people of all ages and ability and these include shopper, driver, delivery assistant and office assistant.

Restrictions

Experience required: Befrienders need to be friendly, sociable and patient people with a caring manner. You must be a motivated, reliable, trustworthy and enthusiastic individual who can be responsive and flexible on delivering positive outcomes and experiences.
Travel details: Opportunities available at branches across the region (Annan, Dumfries, Castle Douglas, Newton Stewart, Stranraer)
Minimum age: 16

Training details: Full training is provided for volunteer befrienders by Food Train staff

Befriender

They are looking for volunteer befrienders to help them expand their growing service. Volunteer befrienders provide one to one befriending to a socially isolated older person, visiting them in their home and/or taking them out to take part in activities in their local community. This could be popping in once a week for a cup of tea or supporting the befriendee to become more confident or join in community activities. This role is to: - meet with an older person once per week for a mutually agreed length of time - encourage involvement in activities, being mindful of the befriendee's abilities and limitations - maintain confidentiality regarding befriendee information - take part in mandatory induction training and any other relevant training - take part in planned regular reviews with LinkLiving staff - ensure relevant expenses are claimed and receipts are kept on a monthly basis - attend induction training and any other training relevant to the post - operate within LinkLiving policies and procedures and any other relevant guidelines and Legislation. - raise any concerns regarding members’ wellbeing with LinkLiving staff Please note, volunteer befrienders will not be asked to meet any personal care needs

The aim of ‘Friends’ is to help improve the quality of life for our customers and address loneliness and social isolation. We are looking for friendly, outgoing and organised volunteers who will provide a safe, consistent and reliable support service to help customers experience companionship/social interaction on a regular basis either on the telephone, in customers homes or on group outings. You will spend time with your befriendee and simply chat, listen and discuss various topics of interest making the service fun and interesting. You will also have to provide project staff with information on how the time spent with befriendee is going and attend volunteer meetings. Timings - by arrangement. Please enquire.

Befriending can offer a supportive and comforting presence in the lives of those who are affected by loneliness and social isolation. Befriending can help you get involved in your local community. The befriending role can involve visiting your ‘befriender’s’ home, offering your company and time, providing support accessing community activities, and accompanying them on short trips outside of the home. It can also be an opportunity to connect over shared hobbies or interests.
