Christmas Volunteers - Drivers

Description

We are looking for volunteers who can help Care Experienced people who may feel lonely and isolated this Christmas.
 Our Christmas volunteers will assist in providing transport to and from the venue on Christmas day. Pickups from 10.30am (depending on location) and drop offs will start at 3pm.
This role will involve interacting with people aged 18 plus through providing a memorable day for so many on a day that can be extremely challenging.

What will I be doing?

Providing transport to Care Experienced people to and from the venue in Glasgow on Christmas day

Helping Care Experienced people connect and have fun

Helping Care Experienced people feel relaxed and comfortable attending the event

Ensuring Care Experienced people feel safe getting to and from the event

Location

The venue is in Glasgow however, our members will be attending from across Scotland.

Who Cares? Scotland is a national voluntary organisation, working with care experienced young people and care leavers across Scotland. We support care experienced people to have their voice heard and influence to make positive change within the care system.

Behind the scenes, volunteers get involved with store housekeeping and administration, sorting through donations to find those hidden gems and preparing goods for sale by sorting, steaming and pricing items. Do you have specific retail skills to donate? We're also looking for volunteers with skills and ideas around visual merchandising, identifying stock generation channels and raising awareness of our charity shops. Using your local knowledge, you could help to maximise the shop’s potential. Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks: • Sort through donations, find hidden gems • Prepare items for sale • Maintain the shop floor and provide excellent customer service to our shoppers • Operate the till • Help out with basic housekeeping Young Volunteers Please note: A signed Parent/Guardian Consent Form is required for all volunteers aged 14-17 years.

Become a Peer Mentor for Parents

Are you a parent in Scotland? Do you remember what it was like becoming a first time parent? The Why Not Trust are looking for volunteers to become Peer Mentors, providing support to soon to be or new care-experienced parents. We know it take a village to raise a child, but not everyone has the same support networks around them. We aim to create a judgment and stigma-free community of mentors and mentees where trusting one-to-one relationships can be established. What does a Peer Mentor do? • Chat with your mentee on a regular basis, roughly 4 hours per month • Encourage, empower and champion your mentee • Provide gentle guidance in relation to parenting • Engage with your mentee in a non judgemental, caring and supportive way Some of the many benefits our volunteers can expect: • Become part of a supportive and welcoming community • Get matched with a fellow parent you have something in common with • Meetings that fit your schedule – online or in person • Receive accredited mentor training • Get paid for your travel expenses and other expenses • Improve your own confidence as well as your mentees • Develop your communication and listening skills The Why Not? Family Support Volunteer

Can you spare 1/2 hours per week to support families within Edinburgh? Volunteering Matters are a national volunteering charity. We are looking for "Family Support" Volunteers in the City of Edinburgh, who can offer practical, social and emotional support to a local family in need. Our Family Supporters programme recruits, trains and supports volunteers, matching them 1:1 with parents and families facing a range of life challenges and barriers.
