We are looking for some new, enthusiastic volunteers who are keen to provide transport for our members to attend our Social Café. Our Social Cafes are open to those over the age of 65 and want to get out to socialise and be a part of the community.

You would be mainly helping with taking members to the café and back to their homes. However, you could also help in:

  • making teas and coffees for the members.
  • doing activities or assisting members with the activities.
  • socialise with our members.
  • setting up and clearing away.

In return, you will be supported with appropriate training and regular supervision sessions with the named contact, invites to volunteer events and expense reimbursements.

Organisation aims and objectives

We have several services in Fife which provide support to older people. We support older people to (re)connect with their community or help them share their experience and skills for the benefit of others. We help older people who have a range of long-term conditions which limit what they can do, while others are in good health but lack the resources required to live a full and active life. We also provide support to people who have significant caring responsibilities. We also support people to improve or manage their mental and physical health. Ways we help: • reduce isolation by helping you to participate in your community • connect with additional support and specialist services • realise your resilience and resourcefulness • focus on the change you want to achieve in your lives • share your skills and experience through volunteering

Restrictions

Experience required: No experience required, but a full, clean driving licence is essential. All training for the role will be provided. Enthusiasm and keenness to get involved would be preferred.

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Pay mileage (60p per mile) and Passenger miles (5p per passenger, per mile).
Taster available: Yes
Taster details: potential volunteers can come to café to see how it operates, meet the volunteers and members.
Training details: mandatory induction training before starting, followed by ongoing regular support and training as required, e.g. dementia, health and safety etc

We are an award winning service who really work hard towards ensuring our service users with dementia have the best day possible. This starts at pick up. We are looking for 3 voluntary drivers who would be comfortable working with this client group. Any person interested would be a valuable member of our team and we would always ensure they were given the support required. We would also ensure the driver was introduced to a service user and possibly family before they started with pick ups. There may be occasions when we would need to use an escort. This would mean picking one of our carers up before travelling for a service user/s. A driver for us would get to know our carers very well and would always be welcome to stay on for a cuppa or a chat if they so wished. We are looking for drivers who would be available around 9.30am to pick up and transport to one of our venues. There would then be return journeys around 3pm although we do have a couple of mens groups (Tuesday and Thursday) when they are returning home at 3.30pm. If possible it would be great if a driver was available during the day however this would be preplanned (out for lunch). There may be multiple pick ups and drop offs on each day. Any driver would have to be PVG checked. Later in the year we will be looking to open a couple of evenings and weekends (wont be all day). This will be a new service which is much needed for the people with Dementia in the Falkirk area. There will be occasions when families will be in a position to transport however a voluntary driver would also be required. We do not have a start date for this as yet. We cover the Falkirk Area from Boness to Slamannan.

Our tea party drivers are a vital part of the Re-engage team. Tea parties provide a lifeline of friendship for our older people, and the regular, warm, friendly chats and companionship provide a vital link with the outside world from which they have become isolated. Drivers take older people to the parties and stay with them to enjoy the get-together. Over time, drivers and older guests get to know each other well and together you will spend many hours full of fun, laughter, and stories. As a tea party driver, you liaise with your group coordinator and take older guests to and from the tea parties each month. Staying at the tea party is part of your role, so it’s much more than being a driver. You will need to have a full, clean, driving license, and a PVG. You will also need to check that you are covered by your regular motor insurance policy to do this role. Tasks include: • Driving one to two older guests using your own car to a tea party venue and returning them home again after the event . • Staying at the tea party to help with conversation and serve refreshments. • Liaising with the group coordinator to confirm which older guests you will pick up. • Informing the group coordinator of any safeguarding concerns or issues you might have. • Following all guidance in your driver training modules to ensure that the tea parties are enjoyable, appropriate, and in line with our charitable aims. This is a flexible, voluntary role that can easily be fitted in around your own lifestyle and availability. Experience required: No experience necessary however we are looking for drivers with the following skills and attributes: • Organised • Good conversational skills • Considerate driving ability • Ability to navigate to new addresses • A friendly, and empathetic approach • Patience and understanding of supporting older people • Basic computer literacy (including the ability to use emails)

Volunteers will have the satisfaction of enabling a diverse range of community groups and also Tweeddale residents with a disability to access social and recreational activities, attend meetings and appointments etc. Volunteers can benefit themselves from the outings and may choose to get further involved with groups for whom they drive. Drivers also benefit from MIDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) training which is recognised throughout the UK as the standard course for volunteer drivers involved in community transport.

Driver (Rosyth)

Could you help reduce the loneliness and social isolation of an older person by becoming a volunteer driver? LinkLiving need drivers to take people to and from their social cafe at Rosyth Parkgate Community Centre. The cafe offers older people the chance to meet others for a chat over a cuppa. They also offer quizzes and a range of other activities. Your role would be the first point of contact with their members, getting to know them and building a positive relationship. This involves: - collecting one of the members from their home and bringing them to the Community Centre for 10.30am - taking them home at the end of the session, 12.30pm (stay or leave in between as you wish) - talking to, and getting to know the members - raising any concerns regarding members wellbeing with the Project Workers - attending volunteer meetings and information sessions to help you with this role - making sure your car is road worthy, taxed and properly insured. The cafe takes place on both a Wednesday and Friday in Rosyth, you can apply to volunteer for both days or select a preferred day
