-How you can help Marie Curie as a Patient Feedback Volunteer:
We are looking for warm, friendly volunteers who are good conversationalists to help us gather important feedback about our services from our service users. Volunteers will be calling people who have received our care and have given us consent to gather feedback to ask them some questions about their experience. This role will take place in the volunteer’s home, but it will be vital that they have somewhere suitable to make calls from where they will not be interrupted.

Volunteers will be working with our head of Quality and Clinical Practice and their team, and will be offered regular supervision and catch up sessions to support them throughout their time with us as a volunteer. This is a great opportunity for volunteers to be part of improving Marie Curie’s services for the future- by collecting this important data they will be part of ensuring our services meet the needs of those we care for and that everyone facing death, dying or bereavement has the best experience possible that reflects what is important to them. This is an ideal role for a volunteer who has an interest in improving healthcare for the future, and who is outgoing and confident.

-Skills/Experience:
We’re looking for volunteers with a warm and friendly manner who are able to deal sensitively with our patients and their loved ones. Good IT Skills and the ability to keep accurate records will be vital, as will organisational skills. It will be important that volunteers in this role understand the importance of confidentiality in a healthcare setting, as they will be dealing directly with information about our service users. Maturity and emotional intelligence will also be important as volunteers may occasionally have difficult conversations with the people they are collecting feedback from. Good conversational skills will also be an asset, as our aim is to make the calls feel less like a survey and more like a conversation about the service user’s experience of our care.

-Training and Support Provided:
Volunteers will be provided with full training when they join us and will be issued with a Marie Curie IT account and email address. The core training for this role will include Safeguarding of Vulnerable Groups, Role Boundaries and Confidentiality, use of our IT system and relevant programmes and how to escalate any concerns they may have about a person’s welfare to the proper channel. Volunteers in this role will also have supervision, training and support on a regular basis from their volunteer manager.
