Training Kitchen volunteer

  • VO93071

The Carrick Centre enables a wide variety of training opportunities and hosts a beautiful, fully functioning training café.
Be part of this team and volunteer in our training kitchen, alongside a chef tutor who guides and tutors a group of a maximum of 8 people.

The Carrick centre supports groups of school aged children; vulnerable adults and trainees who have barriers to employment, to gain valuable work experience in hospitality, admin & IT.
Volunteers can support us by:

  • overseeing individuals preparing healthy dishes
  • helping out in food and veg preparation
  • support in cooking/baking methods
  • plating, setting up and clearing the kitchen

Volunteers can also choose to be involved with the administrative side of the training kitchen by creating recipe sheets and managing/recording data.

The Training Kitchen opens Mondays and Fridays 9am to 12:30pm and 12:30pm to 3:30pm. Volunteers can choose shifts and not necessarily cover all hours.

Adult volunteers require a PVG to work with vulnerable groups and 2 references. PVG costs can be covered by the Carrick Centre. Younger volunteers can be exempt of PVG but need 2 references, one of which can be issued by the school.
Experience required: Young people following the Saltire Awards or the Duke of Edinburgh award can apply. The Carrick Centre supports all volunteers and has a no barrier approach to volunteering. All capabilities welcome, the only requirement would be the willingness to participate and support the community.

Expenses paid: Yes
Taster available: Yes
