Description

Responsibilities will include:
Help organising monthly carer support groups, including booking venues and inviting attendees, setting up and clearing down. In the case of an online group, this would involve providing administrative support via Zoom.
Attending groups along with a Carer Support Worker to help facilitate, including meeting and greeting, provision of refreshments and promoting discussion and peer support.

Organisation aims and objectives

Carers of East Lothian supports adults in East Lothian who are looking after a family member or friend who is ill, disabled or frail. We help carers to get information and services to help their individual caring role, enhance their own well-being and strengthen their collective voice to improve services.

Groups run on a monthly basis for up to 3 hours. Groups run at different times, some during the day ad some early evening. Volunteers are asked to attend the group and commit to any administration and planning responsibilities in between groups that have been agreed with the Carer Support Worker who leads on the group.

Experience required: good listening and communication skills If an online group reasonable level of confidence with IT Willingness to learn and develop skills Genuine interest in improving support offered to carers in local area A compassionate and non-judgemental attitude towards others. Absolute respect for carers confidentiality Ability to maintain boudaries and seek help and support where needed
Travel details: Volunteers will have access to CoEL offices at East Lothian Community Hospital. Groups will be run at different venues around East Lothian. Some groups are online.

Expenses details: Volunteers will be reimbursed on a monthly basis for agreed expenses.

Taster details: General induction to volunteering with Carers of East Lothian
Training details: Supervision with Volunteer and Training Coordinator. Opportunities to meet with and learn from other volunteers. If the volunteer begins to run regular sessions with CoEL, they will be provided with ongoing training and development opportunities.
