Do you enjoy getting out and about and chatting to different people along the way? If so, the role of Promotions Volunteer is perfect for you! We're looking for someone who is a great communicator to spread the word about what we do here at Mearns Kirk Helping Hands. The role includes dropping off leaflets and information at targeted locations across East Renfrewshire, making connections with other organisations to let them know what we do, helping with promotional events in venues such as shopping centres and supermarkets and assisting project staff to consider other ways to successfully promote the charity.

The time required for this role is 1-2 hours a week but completely flexible to suit you. In promoting Mearns Kirk Helping Hands, you will be letting others know what services we provide. T his will help people link in to our groups and activities and feel more connected or become more involved in their community.

You will receive support from project staff and out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

Organisation aims and objectives

Mearns Kirk Helping Hands is based in Newton Mearns and we aim to improve health and wellbeing and reduce isolation and loneliness in our community. We do this by providing a range of groups and activities throughout the week including Tai Chi, Blether & Brew Coffee Afternoon, Friendship Club and a Men's Breakfast Club. We also have a befriending project for people aged 65+ who are feeling lonely or isolated and would like the companionship of a volunteer befriender. We are volunteer led and cannot provide any of the services we do, without our amazing volunteer team. We are community helping itself.

Promotions and marketing volunteer

The Carrick Centre is a community facility incorporating a modern church, soft play area and youth wing. Its purpose is to be at the heart of the community with values of inclusiveness and openness. We are currently looking for volunteer support to assist with promoting and marketing the Centre. Volunteers must have basic skills in these area and we would prefer someone who is able to work independently and is creative in their approach. We have several areas that need support - marketing the Centre as a conference and letting facility as well as marketing the cafe and catering functions.

Support Session Volunteer

Support Session Volunteers help our clients with general advocacy, supporting people with a variety of challenges. This helps us to reduce waitlists and support more individuals by: • Helping clients understand about advocacy • Supporting clients to self-advocate with our tool kits • Signposting clients to other services where required • Supporting the service to deliver “collective” advocacy sessions • Light Touch Advocacy • Supporting advocates with casework • Promotion of services and the organisation • Logging activity onto our systems Volunteer, Ben’s priorities changed after a serious illness. “I wanted to give something back. It’s really rewarding as you get to use your knowledge and skills for a really good purpose.” You’ll develop skills in communication and confidentiality, add experience and knowledge to your CV, and know you’re making a genuine difference to people’s lives.
