Pantry Assistant (Arabic-speaking)

Description

Meet and greet customers visiting the Pantry and assist with any purchasing questions, especially for Arabic-speaking customers with little knowledge of English.
Liaise between Pantry staff, other volunteers and Pantry members in both English and Arabic.
Check pricing and labelling.
Check food safety and procedural paperwork.
Managing stock, shelf stacking, ensuring the Pantry is kept well stocked and well presented.
Cleaning and tidying the shop floor before, during and after opening.

The Community Alliance Trust is a community-led organisation which exist to benefit the community of the Greater Craigmillar area of Edinburgh fallowing the principles of sustainable development. It does this by: Developing community assets and new social enterprise initiatives in the local community, Taking their lead from the community in planning and implementing their projects.

Experience required: Good knowledge of English and Arabic Good team worker, helpful and able to engage well with others and the community Reliable and punctual Enthusiastic, willing to learn, be flexible and take on a variety of tasks In good health and physically active Some retail experience would be an advantage
Travel details: The pantry address is: The Greenhouse Pantry, 64 Niddrie Mains Road, Craigmillar, EH16 4BG. This is a very central location in the Craigmillar area of Edinburgh. For volunteers who drive we have parking available. Bus links: 2, 14 and 30 stop outside the pantry.

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: The volunteer will be required to show proof of purchase of any travel expenses. Volunteers will be provided with an expenses form to fill out.
Training details: We will provide volunteers with relevant induction and ongoing training on the general day to day running of the pantry including customer service techniques, food hygiene, stock management and pricing systems, as well as information about the Your Local Pantry network, Community Alliance Trust, and suppliers and donation partners that the Pantry works with. We will also support volunteers (who haven't already) to get their level 2 REHIS Food Hygiene certificate. There is also a regular volunteer training provided each month (online, free) by the Your Local Pantry network (UK-wide) which we would particularly encourage new volunteers to attend.
