Description

We are looking for a Chairperson who is committed to the aims of the Orkney Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre charity to aid and improve the condition of those suffering with multiple sclerosis in Orkney. You will help the committee, staff and volunteer operatives as we support clients and run our Centre on Junction Road in Kirkwall.

The Centre consists of a two person oxygen chamber, a physiotherapy surgery and a massage surgery - all things that can help alleviate symptoms of MS - and is a space for connecting and supporting clients and their carers. The oxygen chamber is where clients have pure oxygen therapy wearing an individual mask sitting in a pressurized chamber and the Chairperson will be trained and supported to use this with clients.

Organisation aims and objectives

Providing hyperbaric oxygen & physiotherapy for sufferers of MS and other illnesses.

Restrictions

The Chairperson would need to be able to assist clients with mobility and maneuvering of wheelchairs into the oxygen chamber.
Experience required: Good sense of humour.  Friendly.  Confident. Flexible. Calm. Committed to the centre and our clients.
Travel details: The Chairperson will: • Operate the oxygen chamber as part of a team of operatives • Organise the oxygen chamber operative rotas • Organise any training required for new operatives • Order the oxygen for the chamber • Fundraise for the charity and help with grant funding applications

Support

Training details: An induction period would be in place until the Chairperson felt confident within the role. Training in the use of the oxygen chamber would be provided by the very experienced team of present operatives and is not complicated to use. Ongoing support would be provided by the Vice Chairperson and committee.

Fundraising Administrator (Scotland) ~ Seagull Trust Cruises

An exciting opportunity to work with a respected charity operating throughout Scotland. Seagull Trust Cruises provide free canal cruises for the elderly, infirm, and those with special needs. Founded back in 1978, and operating from 4 Scottish bases, we are wholly run by volunteers, and 100% funded by grants and donations. Seagull Trust Cruises operate the largest fleet of charity boats in Gt. Britain. We are currently looking for a Volunteer Fundraising Coordinator to head up or join a new small fundraising team, who working with others in the team, can source grant opportunities, liaise with potential funders, prepare quality application forms, and process through to successful completions. Our Executive Board oversee a number of ambitious projects at Branch and Scotland wide level, continuously driving the charity forward while maintaining its excellent reputation for providing free canal cruises for our beneficiaries. We are looking for an excellent written communicator to identify and apply for trust and corporate grants. You will be researching funding opportunities and writing grant applications for the charity, keeping records on appropriate grant giving bodies, (application closing dates and processes), and reporting back to donors the difference their grant has made. You will also keep in touch with the team at local and executive level about the progress of applications. While this is an exciting opportunity to work with one of the most respected charities operating on the Scottish Canal network, no experience or knowledge of the canals or boating is necessary ~ our concern and focus is on our all important beneficiaries.

Copywriter / Newsletter Editor ~ Seagull Trust Cruises

We are currently looking for a Volunteer Copywriter / Newsletter Editor to help produce an on-line newsletter ("Mailchimp" or similar) which will be distributed to our members, supporters, beneficiaries etc. This is a brand new initiative therefore giving scope to influence the publication design and content from the outset. We are looking for an excellent written communicator, perhaps with design ability to work with others in the Charity (Scotland wide) to identify stories, and items of interest to the newsletter readership. Some ability to manipulate images would be beneficial but not compulsory, as others in the team will be able to assist.
