We are looking for a Chairperson who is committed to the aims of the Orkney Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre charity to aid and improve the condition of those suffering with multiple sclerosis in Orkney. You will help the committee, staff and volunteer operatives as we support clients and run our Centre on Junction Road in Kirkwall.
The Centre consists of a two person oxygen chamber, a physiotherapy surgery and a massage surgery - all things that can help alleviate symptoms of MS - and is a space for connecting and supporting clients and their carers. The oxygen chamber is where clients have pure oxygen therapy wearing an individual mask sitting in a pressurized chamber and the Chairperson will be trained and supported to use this with clients.
Providing hyperbaric oxygen & physiotherapy for sufferers of MS and other illnesses.
The Chairperson would need to be able to assist clients with mobility and maneuvering of wheelchairs into the oxygen chamber.
Experience required: Good sense of humour. Friendly. Confident. Flexible. Calm. Committed to the centre and our clients.
Travel details: The Chairperson will:
• Operate the oxygen chamber as part of a team of operatives
• Organise the oxygen chamber operative rotas
• Organise any training required for new operatives
• Order the oxygen for the chamber
• Fundraise for the charity and help with grant funding applications
Training details: An induction period would be in place until the Chairperson felt confident within the role.
Training in the use of the oxygen chamber would be provided by the very experienced team of present operatives and is not complicated to use.
Ongoing support would be provided by the Vice Chairperson and committee.
