We are looking for community engagement volunteers to work alongside our community engagement team Engage with local community groups/services to raise awareness of the range of Marie Curie support services (including our national services) Engage with and bring together people in communities (especially those who are poorly served by end of life care), to understand their experiences. Support Marie Curie in co -designing and developing new and existing services to support people at the end of life or in their bereavement. Feel confident in sharing their story and listening to others in an open and sensitive way. What we need you to do Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks: Provide input and advice and share your experiences Act as an ambassador and advocate for the charity supporting our work Engage with local organisations and represent the views and perspectives of people living with or caring for someone with a terminal illness, or who have been bereaved. Engage with local communities to listen to and learn from their experiences of end-of-life care and bereavement support and ensure that these experiences are shared with the local Marie Curie teams. Provide a good geographical spread across the relevant local area Available to meet regularly with the Community Engagement Team What skills or experience do you need? Feel confident and able to share your story to a diverse audience. NODA Ayrshire works to support members of communities across Ayrshire to help each other at the end of life. We are a registered charity made up of compassionate volunteer companions who kindly volunteer their time to sit with people who are dying in their final hours. Our volunteers provide companionship and a listening ear to anyone who needs support to ensure no-one is left feeling alone or isolated. Share your passion and knowledge of social media to promote the activities of our charity - the South Ayrshire Community Transport. What can you expect to be doing? You will be: - promoting the work of SACT through various social media channels, for example, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter - gathering information locally about activities happening and any other updates - writing and creating social media content, ensuring it complies with policies and guidelines - scheduling and posting social media content - monitoring activity and responding to comments on social media channels You will develop new skills, expand your knowledge, and make a significant contribution to improving alternative transport initiatives through social media. You will also meet new people, make new friends and be part of a dedicated team of staff and volunteers. We’re looking for someone with: - A passion for social media and experience of using social media channels regularly - Knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of using social media - Good IT skills - Good communication skills - Willingness to be part of a team This role is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

Marie Curie Companion is a professional service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness and their families. The service would not be able to reach those most in need if it was not for the commitment and hard work of the volunteers delivering the service. Companion Volunteers provide companionship and emotional support, practical support, short breaks for carers and help with signposting for information and support. Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks: Carry out weekly visits with the person(s) you’re supporting, as agreed with the Volunteer Co-ordinator. This could be in a variety of settings, eg family home, a care home or in the community. Provide one-to-one companionship and support. For example: offering a listening ear and spending time engaging in every-day conversation, activities or hobbies with the person you are supporting. Driving clients to pre-arranged health or social care (e.g. to medical appointments) or taking short trips out. Helping with small, daily tasks, e.g. making tea or accessing the internet. Allowing carers to have a short break. You may be supporting your client’s family or carers before or during bereavement. This may involve offering emotional support, signposting to relevant local support services or finding out information as requested (This is only an outline as support will vary according to individual needs.
