Peer Support Volunteer - Bipolar Disorder

Description

We would like to meet people who live with bipolar disorder and who have reached the point that they are managing their bipolar well. If you would like to spend a little of your time helping someone who has recently been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, then we would like to hear from you.

Working collaboratively with the Peer Workers and other colleagues, our Peer Support Volunteers provide complimentary practical and emotional support to those who have been newly diagnosed with bipolar.

Our volunteers are able to utilise their lived experience of living well with bipolar disorder, to inspire and empower those who use the service to acquire and enhance skills to improve their personal resilience and enable them to live well with bipolar too.

They will draw on their knowledge and skills to provide practical support in areas such as personal finance, budgeting, social inclusion, employability and education to support individuals to achieve their goals, to create meaningful and sustainable connections with other sources of support within their communities and instil a sense of hope for the future and what they can achieve.

Volunteering times are flexible on any day, either morning, afternoon and evenings, to mutually suit the volunteer and the person benefitting from peer support. We would expect approximately 2 hours per week time commitment.

Volunteering in on-to-one peer support, done on-line via our free 'Near Me' on-line platform.

We are Scotland’s national charity for everyone who lives with bipolar disorder and those who care for them. We challenge stigma and discrimination while representing the views of people who live with bipolar to politicians, professionals and others.

Cruse Scotland Bereavement Support is seeking enthusiastic and compassionate volunteers to answer telephone calls to their National Helpline. Applicants should have excellent listening skills and the ability to put people at ease on the telephone. You should be able to keep a level head when dealing with distressing, angry or difficult calls. Full training will be given - volunteers will be expected to take part in ALL of the training dates before undertaking this role. We ask that all helpline volunteers commit to at least one 3-hour shift per week. This can be daytime, evenings or weekends. This role will be home based.

Volunteer Helpers

Do you love meeting people? Do you want to help older people in the local community? YES! Then this is a great volunteering opportunity for you. Our trusted, reliable and friendly volunteers provide a vital weekly food shopping service which helps older people stay healthy and independent at home. Volunteer Helpers normally dedicate one day a week to Food Train with a minimum time commitment of between four and five hours starting around 9.30am and finishing around 14:30pm. On Mondays our Helpers collect shopping lists from our customers. This involves going to customers’ homes around the Galashiels, Hawick and Selkirk areas accompanied by a Volunteer Driver, checking shopping lists are correct and clearly written and in some cases writing lists for customers. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays Volunteer Helpers deliver shopping around the Galashiels, Hawick and Selkirk areas accompanied by a Volunteer Driver. Shopping is collected from Tesco or Asda in Galashiels already boxed and is delivered in a dedicated Food Train van to each customers’ home where it is unpacked, checked and put away if required. Customers pay for their shopping at this point, so Volunteer Helpers carry a small money float and some cash handling will be required. This social and active post will help keep you fit and active whilst providing an invaluable service to the local community.

Do you love to drive? Do you want to help older people stay healthy and independent at home? YES! Then this is a great volunteering opportunity for you. Our trusted, reliable and friendly volunteers provide a vital weekly food shopping service which helps older people stay healthy and independent at home.
