Volunteer Support Worker

Description

To work within the DGMA shop on Dumfries High Street accompanying families and individuals (who are currently guests of Scotland) in need of clothing and toiletries. The role will include recording items gifted to those in need to help with stock control.

Organisation aims and objectives

Support people from ethnic, religious and cultural minorities. To provide education and training for organisations about minority issues. To share information about activities and events across the region. To provide services including translation and interpretation. To establish a Multicultural Centre as a place to meet and celebrate the special events of our faith and communities.

Restrictions

Experience required: Friendly with good communication skills. A positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team.
Minimum age: 16

Volunteer Support Worker

Volunteers will be supported by experienced Group Leaders, to encourage children to try new activities, develop their skills and hobbies and make and maintain friendships. Can Do believe that every child should have opportunities to socialise, have fun and adventures and strive to promote a fun activity programme to eliminate social isolation and disadvantage. Volunteers will be paired up on a 1-1 basis with a young person and become their buddy and mentor. They will ensure that the child’s basic care needs are met and promote independence. Volunteers are expected to participate in a variety of activities alongside members to encourage participation. Full training, volunteer expenses and support provided.

Volunteer Family Support Worker (Fife)

The family support worker is The Butterfly Trusts’ first point of contact with clients in their area, responding to requests that are often for help. The volunteer provides social support in their local community for people affected by Cystic Fibrosis. They offer a listening ear and help to negotiate official systems that include housing, benefits, education, employment and independent living. The support worker role offers an opportunity to utilise your professional or personal life experience for the purpose of enhancing the life of a family or individual living with the impact of Cystic Fibrosis. Training and support is available. Family support workers can also be trained to provide advocacy if they wish to be more challenged, learn new skills or perhaps make good use of those they already have.
