Description

Thank you for your interest in our Driver Volunteer Role.

Ayrshire Cancer Support has operated since 1982, providing emotional support and practical help to those affected by cancer in Ayrshire. Our Volunteers make a vital contribution, by enabling the continuation of the support we offer.

Kind, Caring, Compassionate? If you have a full driving licence, have a 4 or 5 door car, and have some time to spare, you can make a real difference by transporting cancer patients within Ayrshire to and from various hospitals, locally and in Greater Glasgow for treatment. Our service users are required to attend appointments at a wide range of times, generally between 9.00am and 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.
Our Driver Volunteers…

 Enjoy interacting with people.
 Are supportive, non-judgemental and accepting of others.
 Provide warmth, sensitivity and a willingness to listen.
 Display patience and understanding.
 Understand the importance of confidentiality and providing a regular commitment.
 Contribute to the valuable services provided by Ayrshire Cancer Support
We ask our Drivers to…
 Undertake training relevant to the role – which includes shadowing a Driver Volunteer.
 Adhere to the policies and procedures of ACS.
 Safely transport patients from their homes to hospital and back at pre-arranged times.

No formal patient transport experience or skills are required, however, a valid Driving Licence held for a minimum of 5 years is essential. You will be eligible to claim expenses for associated mileage whilst volunteering when using your own vehicle, in line with current HMRC allowances.

If you are interested in this role or would like to discuss the opportunity, please contact us at volunteering@ayrshirecs.org or call us on 01563 538008.
