Description

This is a great opportunity to be involved with a Christian Medical charity to raise funds for a neglected tropical disease. Leprosy still exists in over 120 countries with approximately 200,000 new cases every year despite there being a cure.

The group has been in existence in the local area for over 50 years. We meet 4 times per year to organise events eg coffee mornings, concerts, participating in sponsored walk such as the Kilt Walk and running events. Speaking opportunities are available to inform others of the charity.

We have a good relationship with various local churches who support us and send in donations.

You would be volunteering with a small group of friendly , welcoming people to use your ideas to participate in and enhance fundraising events. All new ideas for fundraising are always welcomed.

We feel new members to the group would enhance and refresh what we do.

A warm welcome is extended to attend a meeting to decide whether this is something you would enjoy and find as rewarding as we do.

The Leprosy Mission Scotland ( Registered Scottish Charity SC022411 ) is part of The Leprosy Mission International.

Organisation aims and objectives

The Leprosy Mission Scotland is the Scottish partner in The Leprosy Mission Global Fellowship’s effort to defeat leprosy and transform lives. Everything we do in Scotland help us move towards our ultimate goal of making leprosy a thing of the past.

Frequency and commitment details

Flexible times available for volunteers to help. All help makes a difference and is greatly appreciated.

Restrictions

Travel details: We meet four times each year to plan activities in a relaxed environment. At present we meet in Milltimber at the home of one of our committee members. The coffee mornings are in Cults at Cults Kirk Centre or St Marys Church of Scotland in King Street, Aberdeen. Venues for other events vary but are usually within the city.

Support

Training details: Excellent support and relevant guidance is provided to all volunteer. Includes initial meeting with Chair and one other to chat informally about the charity and give written information and guide to relevant websites. Introduction to our committee by attending a meeting for the volunteer to decide whether they wish to join. Full information about The Leprosy Mission will be given. Support at our events.

Volunteers we need you, with you inspiration and motivation to serve as a board member on the Management Board of HALLA (Harlaw Area Lifelong Learning Association). We are a Board of people who run daytime and evening classes at Kaimhill Learning Centre. We have a FB page ( @HALLACommunity) where you can see some of our activities and tutored classes. We meet once a month to discuss new opportunities and management issues, to find new ways of how-to bring people of all ages in the local community into the centre. We have several weekly, social, informal learning groups where Board members can get to know each other and form a friendly working relationship. A volunteer should be passionate, enthusiastic and have a keen interest in community matters. A volunteer does not necessarily require specific skills since we all support each other to develop new skills but if you have specific ones, it would be good to introduce them to the rest of the Board so we can use them to benefit the local community. The Board would appreciate people with knowledge of IT and office procedures but enthusiasm and interest in the community are equally important. This is an amazing opportunity to discover your “hidden talents” !!! You are very welcome to attend a committee meeting and see if this is for you. Research Ethics Committee Members

Research Ethics Committees consist of up to 18 members from both clinical and non-clinical backgrounds. Our committees review health and social research, check that people are provided with the information they need to help them decide whether they wish to take part, and provide an opinion as to whether the research is ethical. We currently have vacancies for members of the public who are not currently healthcare professionals, and who are interested in thinking about issues from the perspective of a potential research participant and would like to develop knowledge of research ethics. Members receive training in ethical review and have opportunities to debate challenging issues. Positions are voluntary but expenses are paid for. The Committee meets on average for half a day per month and carry out additional work by email correspondence. Committee Members

Relationships Scotland are Scotland's largest provider of relationship counselling, family mediation and child contact centres. Relationships Scotland - Couple Counselling Ayrshire are currently looking for committee members. We are ideally looking for individuals with a background in finance or law but would be open to other skills. Our meetings are currently held every 2nd month on a Friday afternoon. Volunteers will provide support and advice on our goals and activities and ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation. Committee members also ensure that the charity operates within its charitable purpose and complies with the requirements of OSCR. Our committee members are an essential and valued part of the team.

Committee Members

We are seeking new Committee Members. To be a member of the committee and contribute to our recovery from COVID. Your skills will contribute to developments as well as continuation of the current programme. Our preferred means of development is to follow ideas that come from the community. The committee meets monthly on Thursday evenings 6.30pm – 8.30pm at the Community Centre which is in the Bridge of Don Academy Building. Car Parking is good and the No 1 bus has a stop near to the building. A fantastic opportunity to help and make a real difference for the community. All assistance is greatly appreciated.
