Youth Ambassador - Saltire Awards

Description

We're looking for secondary school pupils in South Ayrshire to become Saltire Ambassadors - could this be you?

As a Saltire Ambassador, you will work in a team of young people to help local charities and causes get more young volunteers. You will also help pupils at your school learn about the Saltire Awards and the benefits of volunteering. This is a fun and exciting role which will involve:

  • A commitment of 1 evening Teams meet-up per month in addition to organising in-school events and activities
  • Support and training on topics such as Youth Voice, Social Media Marketing, Mental Health, and Intersectionality
  • Using your own skills and creativity to encourage your peers to volunteer (pupils in previous groups have organised Christmas donations projects, planned intergenerational days, spoke in their school assemblies about volunteering, made social media content, and even hosted large events like the annual Saltire Awards Ceremony in Ayr Town Hall!)

This role is open to all secondary pupils aged 12+ in South Ayrshire who have an interest in volunteering and who would like to help us show more young people how they can make a difference in their community.

Organisation aims and objectives

Voluntary Action South Ayrshire (VASA) is the local Third Sector Interface. It is recognised by Scottish Government and South Ayrshire Council as fulfilling a key role in ensuring the continued development of a robust Third Sector in South Ayrshire. As VASA has been created from an amalgamation of Volunteer Centre South Ayrshire (VCSA) and Council for Voluntary Organisations in Kyle and Carrick (CVOKC) it is founded on a wealth of experience gained during decades of work with Third Sector organisations, agencies and groups operating in South Ayrshire.

Frequency and commitment details

Participants will be invited to in-person activities and will have the opportunity to take on additional volunteering activity, such as creating social media content, in their own time.

Scouts (Beaver, Cub or Scout) Leader - Flexible volunteer

Week by week, our volunteers inspire and provide #SkillsForLife for young people aged 4-25. We support Scouting in the Borders, Braid, Craigalmond, East Lothian, Edinburgh North East, Midlothian and Pentland areas Our Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts learn new skills, make new friends and stand on their own two feet. They’re supported by our everyday heroes - adult volunteers who shape young people’s lives for the better and find out a whole lot about themselves in the process, too. You don’t need to be Bear Grylls to join us. You don’t need to have been a Scout when you were younger. You don’t even need to know how to put up a tent. Our door is open to people of all ages, genders, races, and backgrounds, and we’re only able to change lives because people like you lend a hand. We’re talking about tea makers, tidy-uppers, and skill sharers. We’re talking about minibus drivers and first aiders. We’re talking about students who want to boost their CV, and parents who volunteer so they can spend more time together as a family. Whatever your skillset, lend a hand for as little or as much time as you can spare, and we promise you’ll get more out than you put in. Because whether you’re helping a leader to run an activity in the local town hall, organising a night away, or buttering 120 slices of bread a group of very hungry eleven-year olds - no two Scout meetings are the same. Retail Volunteer - Saltcoats

Join us as a volunteer at Marie Curie charity shops, where your efforts will directly support our mission to provide vital care for terminally ill individuals and their families. As a Retail Volunteer, you'll be the heart and soul of our store, bringing joy to our customers and helping us create a vibrant shopping experience. Volunteers are involved in a wide range of roles and day-to-day activities that support the running of each store for two hours or more a week. On the store floor you could be involved with providing excellent customer service, processing transactions on the tills, replenishing stock and putting up eye-catching displays to entice customers in. Behind the scenes, volunteers get involved with store housekeeping and administration, sorting through donations to find those hidden gems and preparing goods for sale by sorting, steaming and pricing items. Do you have specific retail skills to donate? We're also looking for volunteers with skills and ideas around visual merchandising, identifying stock generation channels and raising awareness of our charity shops. Using your local knowledge, you could help to maximise the shop’s potential. STEM Ambassador Programme

Interested in inspiring young people in the STEM subjects? Join a national network of 32,000 STEM Ambassadors in the UK and 5,000 in Scotland! STEM Ambassadors volunteer to inspire the next generation and help young people to develop the skills, confidence and mindset to build successful futures in STEM. You can volunteer as a STEM Ambassador to give career talks, run STEM clubs, provide advice on STEM subjects, run STEM workshops, help young people with STEM competitions - anything really which will ignite their imagination. STEM Ambassadors can find their own opportunities to volunteer or can search the STEM Ambassador digital platform for both face to face and online requests placed by teachers and community groups. The platform will connect you with the teacher/community group making the request and you can message to arrange the activity. All of your volunteering can be recorded on the platform to build a detailed summary of what you have been involved with. All STEM Ambassadors undergo a PVG Disclosure check and undertake online induction training before being authorised to work with young people. The programme is funded through the UK Government, with SSERC being the local Scottish delivery partner. SSERC will provide you with regular updates, training sessions and networking opportunities to keep your knowledge up to date and relevant for working in schools and community groups.
