Young Carer's Group Volunteer

Description

We are seeking enthusiastic and reliable volunteers to support our team to deliver respite youth groups to young carers in SW Edinburgh. Our groups are based in our hub in Broomhouse, often heading out for the evening to activities such as Lazer tag, trampolining etc. Times are 5-8pm
We are looking for volunteers to commit to attend one of these evening groups (Monday or Tuesday) to allow us to get out and about. Supporting the project worker to deliver the program to young people.

Organisation aims and objectives

Space @ The Broomhouse Hub is a Scottish Award nominated Charity organisation delivering diverse services supporting young people, families, older people, and carers – amongst others – engaging with local people more than 34,000 times last year. More than 30 years on, with a new community hub building and still with local community groups and trustees at its core, Space continues working to improve the happiness, mood & mental well-being of our community members, enhancing physical health, and developing skills & job opportunities, whilst growing the confidence of the residents of our area and beyond in South West Edinburgh. We do this by nurturing, supporting, and inspiring people of all ages so that lives are fuller, the potential is fulfilled and community connections flourish.

Restrictions

Experience required: Essential: Reliable. Desire to work with children. Enthusiastic. Ability to listen.
Travel details: We always meet at Space @ the Broomhouse Hub, with excellent transport links to get here. We then utilse a minibus or public transport to get out to external activities which is organised by Project Worker.
Minimum age: 16

Expenses details: No expenses.
Training details: We offer induction to the volunteering role along with support and supervision ongoing. All volunteers can access training throughout their time with Space and we will provide training/support identified.
Support: Wheelchair Access/Disabled Access Toilet

Volunteer Helpers

Do you love meeting people? Do you want to help older people in the local community? YES! Then this is a great volunteering opportunity for you. Our trusted, reliable and friendly volunteers provide a vital weekly food shopping service which helps older people stay healthy and independent at home. Volunteer Helpers normally dedicate one day a week to Food Train with a minimum time commitment of between four and five hours starting around 9.30am and finishing around 14:30pm. On Mondays our Helpers collect shopping lists from our customers. This involves going to customers’ homes around the Galashiels, Hawick and Selkirk areas accompanied by a Volunteer Driver, checking shopping lists are correct and clearly written and in some cases writing lists for customers. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays Volunteer Helpers deliver shopping around the Galashiels, Hawick and Selkirk areas accompanied by a Volunteer Driver. Shopping is collected from Tesco or Asda in Galashiels already boxed and is delivered in a dedicated Food Train van to each customers’ home where it is unpacked, checked and put away if required. Customers pay for their shopping at this point, so Volunteer Helpers carry a small money float and some cash handling will be required. This social and active post will help keep you fit and active whilst providing an invaluable service to the local community.

Do you love to drive? Do you want to help older people stay healthy and independent at home? YES! Then this is a great volunteering opportunity for you. Our trusted, reliable and friendly volunteers provide a vital weekly food shopping service which helps older people stay healthy and independent at home.
