Based from TD1 2HQ We have community led outreach volunteering opportunities throughout the Scottish Borders including but not limited to Hawick, Peebles, Eyemouth, Galashiels, Cheviot and Teviot. We are looking for volunteers who • Can commit to volunteer at least half a day per week – Monday to Friday • Are able to drive and have use of a vehicle, this is preferred if providing outreach support but not essential. If you will be driving for this role you need to have held a full driving licence for at least 2 years which allows you to drive in the UK. • Have good communication skills. • Are warm, friendly and able to empathise with others. Are reliable and passionate about making a difference to the lives of vulnerable people. Are available to undertake the required e-learning modules and Zoom training sessions within the first few months of volunteering. What you will be doing Visit people in hospital as they are getting ready to go home. Bring people home from hospital. Help someone settle in when they first arrive home. Support with shopping and collecting prescriptions. Help people find further support if they need it. Keep records of tasks. The skills you need Warm and friendly with empathy for others. Good communication skills. Encouraging and supportive. Enjoy meeting and spending time with new people. Can work independently and as a part of a team. Able to commit to a regular shift.

STEM Ambassadors volunteer to inspire the next generation and help young people to develop the skills, confidence and mindset to build successful futures in STEM. You can volunteer as a STEM Ambassador to give career talks, run STEM clubs, provide advice on STEM subjects, run STEM workshops, help young people with STEM competitions - anything really which will ignite their imagination. STEM Ambassadors can find their own opportunities to volunteer or can search the STEM Ambassador digital platform for both face to face and online requests placed by teachers and community groups. The platform will connect you with the teacher/community group making the request and you can message to arrange the activity. All of your volunteering can be recorded on the platform to build a detailed summary of what you have been involved with. All STEM Ambassadors undergo a PVG Disclosure check and undertake online induction training before being authorised to work with young people. The programme is funded through the UK Government, with SSERC being the local Scottish delivery partner. SSERC will provide you with regular updates, training sessions and networking opportunities to keep your knowledge up to date and relevant for working in schools and community groups.

DENNY AND DUNIPACE CITIZENS ADVICE BUREAU ARE SEEKING TO RECRUIT 10 VOLUNTEERS. To help provide effective and efficient advice to members of the public, carry out admin duties and develop the bureau. Main Duties include: •Interviewing clients – listen to the client and let the client explain the problem. Help the client to clarify the issues by exploring the problem and asking questions •Giving information - Use Advisernet and other reference materials to find the relevant information, communicate that information to clients •Giving advice – explain the information to the client and the choices that the client has, so they can decide what to do •Give practical help – Fill in forms on paper or online, do benefit checks using appropriate calculation tools, speak to or contact other agencies on behalf of the client, with the client’s consent. •Complete clear case records •Recognise the root cause of problems and participate in taking action •Carry out admin duties. •Carry out reception duties. Denny and Dunipace CAB run a comprehensive training programme for Trainee Advisers which provides support and mentoring with an experienced Adviser. In return, your travel expenses will be reimbursed by the Bureau and there is access to external training once all initial training is completed. Many Advisers have gained useful experience and qualifications whilst volunteering for Denny and Dunipace CAB which have helped them gain employment.

The Food Train operates throughout Scotland, supporting older people in local communities to remain living in their own home, as independently as possible. If you like chatting, meeting people and getting out and about this could be the role for you! Our volunteer befrienders take part in home visits, one on one excursions and sometimes group trips. We have a large number of older people in Falkirk experiencing loneliness and isolation who would love the companionship of another person who can visit on a regular basis. The role involves: - Visiting an older person in their own home to spend time chatting, listening and discussing various topics; playing a game; doing a puzzle; cooking... Whatever interests you both! We will always try to match you with someone we think you would be compatible with. - There's always the option to go out on walks or outings. - Visits will be arranged in advance and may be at a regular time every day/week/fortnight. - We ask that you update staff after visits and complete monitoring and reviewing requirements. - Informing staff of any concerns, accidents, incidents or complaints. - There's always the option to attend volunteer meetings, training and social events throughout the year.
