Historical Archive - Dudhope Castle

  • VO98097

Description

The Circle’s headquarters are based in the historic Dudhope Castle, Dundee. The castle was originally a 13th-century building for the Scrimgeour Clan. It has a long and interesting history, including its ties to William Wallace, the 100 years of its use as a military barracks, and its time as Dundee’s first museum. The Circle moved into Dudhope Castle in April 2022.

We are looking for volunteers to join our historical group in Dundee, where our goal will be to create an internal archive about Dudhope Castle. The historical volunteers will visit local archives and libraries as a group and gather information to understand the full extensive history of Dudhope Castle.

We are interested in all areas of the castle’s history, and volunteers will be able to investigate interesting topics such as the Medieval and Jacobite history, the 19th-century barracks and military use during world wars, the reconstruction in the 80s, and all users of the castle since then!
