Description

The volunteer will work with staff to deliver a code club in libraries with an emphasis on Arduino beginners kits. Tech Shed will use platforms to teach basic concepts to late primary to S1 age children around coding, sensors, and electronics . The volunteer will work with staff to support children to develop their STEM skills and grow more competent and confident in coding, while still making the club a fun experience. Each block of work will take place over 8 weeks in 3 different locations, to run consecutively.

1.5 hours a week. Clubs run at times and frequencies to be decided depending on location – The 3 blocks will run over 8 weeks, although we wouldn’t expect volunteers to be able to commit to every session.

Restrictions

Experience required: The volunteer needs to have good skills in coding, and be familiar with the basic concepts surrounding basic electronics and use of sensors platforms. We don’t expect anyone to be an expert, just to have some knowledge around the kit and a willingness to learn themselves if required! Volunteers must be approachable, friendly and keen to make the clubs enjoyable as well as informative.
Travel details: Libraries are on bus routes.

Training details: The volunteer will liaise with a nominated member of staff at their local library, who will help host club sessions with them, and will be the first point of contact for any issues, questions, or problems should they arise.
