Would you like to become a mental health peer support volunteer, and support people to improve their mental health and wellbeing in the Scottish Borders?
We are looking for 1:1 and group peer support volunteers who identify as having had lived experience of mental health difficulties, and have an awareness of their own recovery journey.
As a 1-1 Peer Support Volunteer, you will support someone on a one-to-one basis for six months for 1-2 hours per week. During this time, you will work with them to understand how they are feeling and to explore what steps they can take to make positive changes.
This would include:
• Exploring groups and activities with them
• Supporting them to meet other people
• Helping them to feel more confident
As a Group Peer Support Volunteer, you will work closely with a group facilitator to carry out group activities or discussions focused around mental health and recovery. Groups run fortnightly or in 8 week blocks for a period of 6 months.
• Support group peers to hear one another and be heard
• Ensure everyone is working within the peer agreement
• Assist the group with any activities that may be taking place
• Assist in facilitating any discussions around mental health and recovery
Available times for this opportunity are flexible.
Complete a 4 x 3 hour session Health in Mind training course.
For 1-1 Volunteers - 1-2 hours per week for 6 months. For Group Volunteers - attend either 2 hour fortnightly groups or 8 week blocks over the course of 6 months.
Maintain contact with your volunteer supervisor. Attend regular (6 weekly) support and supervision meetings.
