We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who would like to support the work of our canal boat the Lochrin Belle based at Edinburgh Quay
Main tasks include:

Crewing the boat.
Being a public face of the organisation.
Welcoming people aboard.
Dealing with the needs of passengers.
Supporting the health and safety of passengers.
Helping with maintenance and cleaning.
Supporting colleagues including the skipper and other volunteer crew members.

Organisation aims and objectives

Fountainbridge Canalside Community Trust (FCCT) supports and encourages communities to engage positively with the canal, to promote its heritage, environment and amenity, with a view to encouraging more local people to use the canal to their benefit. We have been operating since 2004 working with canal-side communities near the Union Canal.

Travel details: Fountainbridge Canalside Community Trust, c/o Scottish Canals Office, 23 Lower Gilmore Place, Edinburgh EH3 9NY We are located on Edinburgh Quay - our boat travels out from here along the canal so the office address is very much the starting point. There are numerous bus routes stopping nearby and we encourage active travel to and from our location.

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: We can provide an expenses claim form and assist with its completion - expenses can be paid from petty cash or if it's a greater amount by bank transfer.
Taster available: Yes
Training details: All volunteers are offered taster sessions and if they decide to proceed we then enable them to 'shadow' experienced crew and attend our regular Tuesday morning volunteer sessions which include training. We offer 1-1 supervision support for volunteers but this is not compulsory. We hope that volunteers will want to get more involved with crewing on our boat and we aspire to offer all volunteer crew the opportunity to take a Helmsman training course which takes place in Falkirk.
