Quarriers Falkirk Children's Rights Service is an independent service which supports children and young people up to the age of 18 who are care experienced or those with additional support needs, however we will not turn any child or young person away. Our focus is to empower the children and young people we support to participate in the decisions that affect their life. We want their voice to be heard and be at the heart of decisions that affect them.

Purpose of the Role:
Do you enjoy working with children and young people? Do you have a few hours each week to spare? Would you like to be part of this exciting service that makes a lasting positive change in young people’s lives? If yes, then this exciting new Children and Young Person Information Volunteer opportunity is for you! You will be working as part of Falkirk’s Children’s Rights Service and will ensure the service supports and encourages children and young people’s ongoing participation in expressing their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them, and to have their views considered and taken seriously. Young people become more confident and empowered when they see their views are being heard and taken seriously. Their self-esteem improves and they become more likely to actively participate in all areas of their lives.

Main Tasks:
The main tasks for the Children and Young Person Information Volunteer are:-

  • Promote and raise awareness of the service and the rights of children and young people
  • Administrative duties
  • Dealing with enquiries
  • Partnership working with children, their families and other professionals
  • Provide individual relationship-based assistance to children and young people ensuring their rights are safeguarded

Where & When:
Weekly if possible in the Falkirk area, may include some evenings. The opportunity will be based within the Falkirk office and may require travel through the area.

Commitment Required:
To get the most out of the role it is hoped the volunteer can commit for at least nine months.

Training & Support Provided:
All relevant training will be provided, including a named person to provide support. You will also have the opportunity to access other training as part of personal development.

Experience required: No formal qualifications are required however the role would require:- * Ability to be flexible & adaptable to changing situations * Empathy and understanding for young people and a desire to help them reach their full potential. * Knowledge and experience of working with children and young people. * Ability to engage & build a positive relationship with children and young people. * Reliable, trusting and supportive * Ability to be flexible & adaptable to changing situ
Travel details: Access to a car is preferable but not essential.
