Description

ABOUT CLACHWORKS
Clachworks is a new social enterprise that plans to open a socially inclusive space for making and remaking in Inverness. We believe that the tools, skills and resources needed to create and repair things shouldn’t cost the earth, and should be accessible to all. As such, we have plans to open a tool library, makerspace, repair café, community garden and cafe.

ABOUT THE BOARD
Clachworks is registered as a community interest company and is governed by a (voluntary) Board of Directors which exists to support the financial viability of Clachworks, whilst ensuring that it meets its social aims. It works closely with the Managing Director (currently working on a voluntary basis), and will support our Volunteer Coordinator and future staff members.

The Board currently comprises three individuals with a combined background in project management; mechanics; craft; research; teaching; and community event organising.

Clachworks is in its ‘start up’ phase and is yet to begin operating. Over the past year the Board’s energy has been focused on developing an outline business plan and fundraising strategy; conducting market research and community consultations; and negotiating the intended premises. We are nearing the conclusion of these negotiations and hope to be in the space by late Spring 2022.

As a fellow company director, joining at a crucial stage of the organisation, you will play an integral role in turning our vision into a reality.

We’re looking to recruit up to three more directors who would be able to share their experience and expertise in at least some of the following areas:

· Business and entrepreneurial development
· Financial management
· Fundraising strategy and corporate sponsorship
· Health & Safety
· Building Management
· Training & Skills Development
· PR & Publicity

This list is not exhaustive and we welcome applications from people who may have skills outside of these specific areas.

Time Commitment

Clachworks is in its ‘start up’ phase and as such there is lots of work to be done. We ask all Board members to ensure that they are able to offer at least 8 – 10 hours per month, attending regular meetings and undertaking additional work independently. Clachworks also welcomes applications from people with additional capacity who may like to be more fully involved in the project.

Time commitment is a big question for most people when thinking about joining a board of directors. We hope that the time you give to Clachworks will be rewarding and beneficial to you, however, we will do our best to make sure the role can work around your life, work and other commitments.
