Description

Are you interested in helping our tenants bring their communal gardens back to life? Our Retirement Schemes across city are looking for experienced gardeners (or a keen amateur) to help restore these wonderful spaces back into shape. Since the beginning of the pandemic, our tenants have not been able to care for their once-loved outdoor spaces, and they are in need of a friendly and patient volunteer to help out. So if you have green fingers, and want to help they elderly tenants in our Retirement schemes to be able to enjoy their green spaces again, get in touch!

Training and gardening tools will be provided, times and commitment can be decided between the volunteer and coordinator prior to starting.

Restrictions

Experience required: • An enthusiasm for gardening would be expected. • A patient, non-judgemental and friendly approach is a necessity. • A willingness to follow basic gardening directions along with an ability to communicate them to others • A enthusiasm to work in all weather conditions is advantageous.
Travel details: Various locations around Dundee
Minimum age: 16

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Public transport costs reimbursed on production of tickets purchased. Mileage paid at 45p/mile.
Taster available: Yes
Taster details: You are welcome to visit the scheme you will be volunteering in prior to starting to give you an idea of the size/shape of the garden and how much work is needing done
Training details: All volunteers will undergo a general volunteer induction and then receive by-monthly support sessions with the volunteer coordinator

The Jean Mackie Centre is a Day and Respite Centre, currently supporting critical admissions since COVID. They have a garden, which is a lovely place for the Users of the centre to use and socialise in. They are looking for volunteers to develop and maintain their low maintenance garden. This includes removing weeds, maintaining seating areas and walking areas, and generally tidying the garden to allow the Users to enjoy sitting outside. There is lovely paving, which is perfect for wheelchair users, but the weeds are growing fast due to the current change in weather. Volunteers' help would be greatly appreciated by both the users and staff in the unit to bring the garden back to its former glory.

Bonnie Dundee is looking for volunteers to help make Dundee a greener, cleaner and brighter place for everyone. All are welcome to come and help us with our gardening activities and other tasks. Our volunteers and are involved in a wide range of projects and activities each year. Including tending to over 50 planters, an urban orchard and two gardens in the city centre, plus carrying out litter picks and helping to encourage biodiversity. Those involved aim to improve Dundee’s environment for both residents and visitors alike, providing opportunities for people to get involved and make a difference in their community. Bonnie Dundee has a great sense of community and enthusiasm, welcoming all volunteers regardless of age, experience or ability.
