Help make a difference to the lives of disabled people in your community, by becoming part of Equal Futures volunteer befriending opportunity.
Through Circles of Support, befriending and social events, Equal Futures promotes social inclusion and creates connections for people with a learning disability or Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and their family carers.

Our Befrienders play a crucial role within society by simply providing someone with a friend to connect with.
We provide support for people aged 16 and over and work across 10 local authority areas: Glasgow, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scottish Borders, Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire, Perthshire, East Ayrshire, North Ayrshire, South Ayrshire.

By joining our caring and knowledgeable team you will support someone to improve their self-esteem and help build their confidence, allowing them to access opportunities they might previously have been isolated from. This may include going for walks, participating in clubs or classes together, or attending Equal Future’s social events.
You will benefit from training and on-going skills development, and will receive friendly and professional support from our Project Co-ordinator. We welcome applicants from all sections of the community, and will work flexibly with you to ensure your volunteering journey is a positive and satisfying experience.

You’ll enjoy lots of benefits being a Volunteer Befriender, such as:

Organisation aims and objectives

Equal Futures is an organisation set up by a group of parents with a family member with a learning disability. This gives a unique viewpoint to the range of challenges families face when they want to make sure that their sons and daughters live a good life. Many families feel isolated; unsure where to ask for help. Most people with disabilities will have social care services to provide support for daily living. But there is often a lack of understanding in these services that people want more than this. Everyone wants friends too – this is where Equal Futures can help.
