Description

Day Service Volunteers attend day sessions from 10.30am to 2.15pm, Mondays to Thursdays. Reporting to the Session Coordinator and supporting within a team of staff and volunteers they assist in providing activities and entertainment, and with serving teas and coffees to clients on their arrival. They also help to ensure a warm, welcoming and friendly atmosphere, and to promote and maintain client independence and confidence. All volunteers are PVG Scheme checked and induction and training is provided. A full role description and application pack is available on request.

Organisation aims and objectives

Provides Active Ageing day service for older people living in Glenrothes and the surrounding area. This includes services for people living with dementia. Also provides a Help to Stay at Home service comprising one-to one inhouse visits lasting one hour, and two hour visits allowing for outings in the community.

Restrictions

Experience required: Experience of working with/caring for older people, including people with dementia is desirable, however training is provided. A caring, professional approach to others is essential, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and work as part of a team. Reliability and a commitment to volunteering is also desirable.
Travel details: Day Sessions are held at Napier House, 300 Napier Road, Glenrothes, KY6 1BF. They are within walking distance from the town centre and bus station and are on a bus route. There is street parking available

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Travel expenses are reimbursed at 45p per mile within the Glenrothes boundary for those driving in, and bus fares are capped at £5 per session on receipt of tickets.
Training details: The Day Service Coordinator provides a comprehensive induction including moving & handling and dementia awareness, and ongoing holds regular one to one support and development meetings with each volunteer. Role specific training is provided within the session by the Session Coordinators. From time to time external trainers visit to provide groups of staff/volunteers with additional training courses such as Emergency First Aid and Fire Safety Awareness.

Activities Facilitator

We at Sunnybrae are a Very Sheltered Housing complex, set up to enable people to live independently in a community setting with the added bonus of high-quality care and access to meals and activities provided at the Core building. We are looking for volunteers to support our friendly staff team with organising and leading activities for our residents. Activities could include organising or providing: * Live music or singing; * Arts and crafts sessions; * Physical exercise such as chair yoga, boccia, any active games; * Gardening and sprucing up our little cul-de-sac; * Pampering sessions, hair and nails and make-up; * Technology and learning, maybe you could show our residents a games console or VR set?; * Fundraising ideas for out comfort fund; … or just taking a resident for a wander and a blether. We will be delighted to have your ideas and for you to share your hobbies with us. These can be group activities or one-to-one activities with residents, tailored to both your interests and the resident’s. This role is very flexible and does not require fixed days – every hour spent with our residents enriches their lives and will be very much appreciated. What could a volunteer gain from the experience: Helping our residents lead a fulfilled life - reviving old skills or even learning new ones is a wonderful thing for them and the satisfaction you will gain from this can make an immense positive difference to your life as well. Maybe you are interested in a job in care in the future? This would be a great opportunity to gain an understanding of the sector and can support a future application. Maybe you could even learn an old skill from one of our residents!

Older People Befriender

The Food Train operates throughout Scotland, supporting older people in local communities to remain living in their own home, as independently as possible. If you like chatting, meeting people and getting out and about this could be the role for you! Our volunteer befrienders take part in home visits, one on one excursions and sometimes group trips. We have a large number of older people in Falkirk experiencing loneliness and isolation who would love the companionship of another person who can visit on a regular basis. The role involves: - Visiting an older person in their own home to spend time chatting, listening and discussing various topics; playing a game; doing a puzzle; cooking... Whatever interests you both! We will always try to match you with someone we think you would be compatible with. - There's always the option to go out on walks or outings. - Visits will be arranged in advance and may be at a regular time every day/week/fortnight. - We ask that you update staff after visits and complete monitoring and reviewing requirements. - Informing staff of any concerns, accidents, incidents or complaints. - There's always the option to attend volunteer meetings, training and social events throughout the year.

Social Centre Volunteer - Kelso

Support people to attend regular social activities and connect to their community. You could be driving people to their local centre, offering lunches, healthy snacks and a good blether, and tailoring support through social activities. If you'd like to have a positive effect on people in your community, this is the role for you. The role is flexible and works around your skills and talents. The aim is to work towards supporting older people to enjoy a social environment and have an opportunity to reduce social isolation and loneliness. The role can be split into areas of purpose, across the session, where you offer an hour one week and maybe more the next. Skills and talents that could be advantageous to the social centre service provision include: Support in setting the venue session to meet the needs of the day. Meet, great welcome – serving a snack and cuppa/drink on arrival. Having conversations that engages and connects within our core value to care and protect. Supporting and delivering stimulating activities that sparks brilliance, fun and engagement. The importance of strong teamwork that coordinates light cleaning, kitchen duties and serving meals. Playing a music instrument, being creative with household waste, reading stories / poems Encouraging, supporting and delivering a shared group activity, with the aim of supporting client to leave the session, having good fun, banter and a feeling of value and worth. Supporting the end of session closedown, ensuring clients leave safely and light cleaning duties.
