Description

The KLSB Community Group was formed in 2018 after it was identified that there was a need for a local group in the area to help tackle issues including food insecurities, social welfare, support and general community wellbeing. We started as a small litter picking group where we gained support from local residents, groups and businesses. Since those early days we have now become a registered Scottish charity who operate a food pantry, a support hub and we are also in the process of bringing a large community garden to the area. We continue to work in the community by bringing colour to our public gardens as well as our micro gardens which can be found throughout our area.

Poverty affects millions of people in the UK. Poverty means not being able to heat your home, pay your rent, or buy the essentials for your children. It means waking up every day facing insecurity, uncertainty, and impossible decisions about money. It means facing marginalisation - and even discrimination - because of your financial circumstances. The constant stress it causes can lead to problems that deprive people of the chance to play a full part in society.
We operate a community food pantry in King Street, Stenhousemuir where Falkirk residents can join, and be entitled to a weekly shopping at a much reduced cost. We also operate a food bank where we take referrals from local authorities and groups such as church groups, councillors, doctors, schools, Support for People, Self-Isolation Support & Social Workers.

We provide this range of services with help from many local volunteers and we offer you the chance to join us, we are an enthusiastic and welcoming team who work together to make a positive impact on our community, volunteer tasks include:

  • planting and maintaining local green spaces, including our flowering planters
  • helping out at the Food Pantry by serving pantry users, organising and sorting food items, keeping the area clean and tidy
  • helping out at events or at our Community Hub where our other community groups are welcomed to host their own meetings and get-togethers, free of charge
