Description

About us
Ronald McDonald House Charities UK provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation for families with seriously ill children in specialist children’s hospitals across the UK.
Ronald McDonald House Edinburgh sits within the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People at Little France in Edinburgh. This 25 bedroom House provides free, comfortable accommodation to families with children and premature babies being treated at the hospital.

Overview

This year, we are launching our first Volunteer Fundraising Group in Edinburgh and the Lothians and are looking for new members to join. Volunteer Fundraising Groups are made up of people who can organise events and activities to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities in their own community. They will act as local representatives for the charity and help to raise awareness of the work we do.

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted our income, but we continue to support families so that they can be near their poorly child’s bedside at 12 hospitals across the UK. We need volunteers to support Ronald McDonald House Charities now more than ever.

What will I do?

As a Volunteer Fundraising Group Member, your activities could include:

• Organising and publicising fundraising events
• Organising bucket collections
• Placing collection tins in local businesses and periodically collecting the money raised
• Collecting fundraised income from supporters in the local community

About you
This volunteering opportunity would suit someone who enjoys organising events and working as part of a team. You would not need any specific skills but a passion for the work that we do and an interest in supporting a charity in your local community would be beneficial.
We ask that you give at least a few hours of your time every month and act as a reputable ambassador of the charity at all times.

Why should I apply?
There are so many different benefits of joining a Volunteer Fundraising Group. You’ll have fun and get to meet new people in your community whilst raising vital funds and awareness for Ronald McDonald House Charities UK. You will be part of a team, working together on fundraising ideas and events which will develop your transferable events, team-work and marketing skills.

How will Ronald McDonald House Charities support me?
• Providing a detailed induction about the aims of RMHC and the difference we make
• Regular meetings with the Community Fundraiser
• All expenses will be reimbursed

How much time would I have to offer?
We anticipate that you would need to be able to spend a minimum of three hours each month.

Organisation aims and objectives

Having a child in hospital is unimaginable for families. At Ronald McDonald House Charities UK, we ease some of the burden by providing free ‘home away from home’ accommodation. The best medical care for your child isn’t always close to home, and families often find themselves travelling long distances to be with their child in hospital. Our 12 Houses across the UK give families a warm and comfortable place to rest, eat and relax, just moments away from their child’s hospital ward. Our support is invaluable to families at a critical time in their lives.
