As part of our Supporting you at Home and Supporting your Recovery services we help clients who have recently been discharged or due for discharge to settle back home and in the community. Your role as a Support at Home Volunteer will be to offer valuable support for clients who require help with any of these services:
-Home Visit: you will provide a friendly chat/visit to someone who is lonely/isolated.
-1-1 Garden Visit; 1-1 Assisted Walks: weather dependant! You can provide social companionship or encourage mobility.
-Shopping: you can help get shopping for someone who is unable to do their own shopping or take someone shopping (depending on mobility) to encourage mobility and socialisation.
-Transport: taking someone to an appointment.

Every day Royal Voluntary Service helps thousands of older people to live the life they want. We provide practical services in homes, in hospitals and in communities all across the country so people can be independent and active. Royal Voluntary Service is one of the largest voluntary organisations and much of our work is supporting older people. We provide practical solutions to the everyday problems of loneliness and isolation.
Experience required: Enjoy meeting new people, genuine interest in helping vulnerable people, awareness of personal boundaries, safeguarding issues. Friendly and outgoing personality, excellent verbal communications skills. Flexible and reliable. Good knowledge of local area. Able to drive is an advantage if supporting people to get to appointments or taking them shopping.
Travel details: Volunteers will support clients who can be anywhere in Aberdeen City. We aim to match volunteers with clients in their local area. Unless volunteers can drive and are willing to travel.

Expenses details: Relevant out of pocket volunteer expenses are re-imbursed as per RVS expenses policy e.g.: bus fares, car mileage. 45p per mile. Volunteers claim monthly, reimbursed within 2 weeks of claim being authorised. Paid into your bank account.
Training details: Excellent support and relevant training is provided to all volunteers. Volunteers will receive a Welcome/Induction session to discuss the charity and expectations; the recruitment process; what online learning and compliance needs to be completed. Online Learning modules include Safeguarding; Health & Safety; Understanding Dementia. Compliance also relates to COVID safety guidelines such as an Individual COVID-19 Risk Assessment. You will receive ongoing support by the Grampian Team, we have an ‘open door policy’ where we encourage volunteers to contact us if there is any concerns or questions.
