Social Cafe Volunteer (Cowdenbeath)

  • VO89992

Just two hours out of your week could make an older persons day! Help reduce loneliness and social isolation by volunteering at one of the (socially distanced) social cafes. The cafe offers older people the chance to meet others for a chat over a cuppa. Quizzes and a range of other activities are also on offer.

You will get to know the service users and build a positive relationship with them, by:

  • meeting and greeting the members as they arrive, around 10.30am (volunteers are asked to arrive for 10am to help with setting up)
  • offering refreshments and clearing away at the end (finishing by 12.30pm),
  • chatting to them and getting to know them,
  • helping members to take part in the activities where necessary, such as giving out pens and paper for the quizzes.
  • attending volunteer meetings and information sessions to help you with this role
  • encouraging members to maintain social distancing and adhere to COVID restrictions
  • raising any concerns with the Project Workers or Assistant Project Workers

Organisation aims and objectives

The project aims to reduce social isolation in older people by recruiting and supporting individuals to become volunteers who can then be matched with an older person, to go shopping go for a coffee, support the person to attend a social group or help the older person with some simple practical tasks.
