Caseworkers support military veterans from all backgrounds and age groups in need of financial, practical and emotional support. Caseworkers signpost clients to specialist services and help with form filling, emails and phone calls in order to apply for funding for equipment and services.
SSAFA – the Armed Forces charity, the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association, is a UK charity that provides lifelong support to serving men and women and veterans from the British Armed Forces and their families or dependents. Anyone who is currently serving or has ever served in the Royal Navy, British Army or Royal Air Force and their families, both regulars and reserves, is eligible for their help.
Approx 4 hours a week
Experience required: Good listener, basic IT skills, good written & spoken English. Military background not necessary. Willingness to advocate for the client and an ability to understand & maintain boundaries.
Travel details: Most volunteers are homebased, however, you may be required to visit clients in their homes

Training details: Excellent support and relevant training is provided to all volunteers. Includes: • Online training course for new caseworkers. Your trainer will guide your group of like-minded volunteers through everything you need to know to get started as a SSAFA caseworker • Some short on-line training modules to complete at home, so you are up to date on how to keep clients, their families and personal information safe • SSAFA branches have regular opportunities to update your training • Access to a range of e-learning courses • Local induction including who supports caseworkers in your branch and how to contact them • Most branches have regular gatherings for caseworkers to meet and share ideas •
