Description

Could you help reduce the loneliness and social isolation of an older person by becoming a volunteer driver? LinkLiving need drivers to take people to and from their (socially distanced) social cafe at Torryburn Community Centre. The cafe offers older people the chance to meet others for a chat over a cuppa. They also offer quizzes and a range of other activities.

Your role would be the first point of contact with their members, getting to know them and building a positive relationship. This involves:

  • collecting one of the members from their home and bringing them to the Community Centre for 10.30am
  • taking them home at the end of the session, 12.30pm (stay or leave in between as you wish)
  • complying with current COVID restrictions both in your car and at the cafe
  • talking to, and getting to know the members
  • raising any concerns regarding members wellbeing with the Project Workers
  • attending volunteer meetings and information sessions to help you with this role
  • making sure your car is road worthy, taxed and properly insured
  • encouraging members to maintain social distancing and adhere to COVID restrictions

Organisation aims and objectives

The project aims to reduce social isolation in older people by recruiting and supporting individuals to become volunteers who can then be matched with an older person, to go shopping go for a coffee, support the person to attend a social group or help the older person with some simple practical tasks.
