Description

This service is designed to assist residents of Clackmannan, Kennet & Forestmill to stay as independent and connected as possible by helping people get to their appointments; meetings; gatherings; and/or collecting shopping, all within a 10-mile radius of Clackmannan and the Forth Valley Royal Hospital.

They need a minimum of eight (8) volunteer drivers who have: their own car; a clean driving licence; valid MOT; and would be willing to take business insurance; and have a PGV check carried out (cost of which will be met by the group).

They pay mileage at 0.65p per mile.

Organisation aims and objectives

Clackmannan Development Trust was set up in 2013 by local residents. Its aim is to make Clackmannan and better place to live, work and visit, restore the civic pride in the people and the historic importance of this Clackmannanshire town. The Trust promotes community participation through utilising local services and facilities, creating social links, developing wider social networks, delivering activities and groups and facilitating local forums. The Trust delivers on a number of streams of work, led by residents including Active Travel and Cycling, Heritage, Community Garden and a Caring and Connected forum that brings together key partners from the school, health centre, police, community council and third sector.

We offer free transport to cancer patients and where possible their escort to all hospitals and clinics in Glasgow, Edinburgh and throughout Ayrshire. Patients are collected from their homes, accompanied to hospital and taken home again after treatment. This service is especially useful for patients who feel unwell, those living in rural areas, the elderly and parents taking their children for treatment. We also provide transport for the hospice and to appointments for all therapy sessions. We can only ensure to continue the service with the support of our volunteer drivers. If you can commit to a few hours of driving and waiting for patients every week or fortnight or every month, please consider volunteering with us. To safeguard both service users and drivers, we require all volunteers to be PVG checked and we do require volunteers to own a vehicle (MOT & insured) and have a clean valid driving license. We will reimburse mileage expenses for volunteers.

Volunteer Driver

If you have spare time any weekday and a car, we are looking for new Volunteer Drivers who can take local Lanarkshire Cancer Patients to and from their hospital and clinic appointments. We can repay your fuel expenses at a rate of 45p per mile. Your role will be to drive patients and any escort only. You will be asked for your availability by our office staff and given plenty of notice as to when and where a patient’s appointment will take place. Our drivers agree a pick-up time with the patient the night before and will either drop them off or bring them home if their treatment is a short one. For longer treatment times, drivers will be asked to either drop the patients off or be asked if they are available to pick them up later if their time allows.
