The main role of volunteers will be to befriend people aged 16 years and over who are presently experiencing mental health difficulties or social isolation and loneliness. The volunteers will be matched with people with similar interests so they can engage in their local community in a variety of ways from meeting up in the community for a coffee and chat, going for a walk or a taking a trip to the cinema. Full induction, training and ongoing contact and support will be given regularly. All out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed including travel and mileage costs.

Organisation aims and objectives

Provide support to service users who have low level mental health by meeting face to face on a weekly or fortnightly basis as agreed.










Be able to commit to a regular meeting day/time to establish rapport and increase the confidence of those being befriended.


Driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable but not essential. For car owners the maximum distance a befriender would be asked to travel is sixteen miles to meet a person, those relying on public transport will be restricted to a three-mile radius
Experience required: Befriending Volunteers should have an interest in helping others who are experiencing mental health difficulties, social isolation, and loneliness. Be willing to engage in a range of activities in their local community from meeting for a simple coffee and chat, going for a walk in a local park or a trip to the cinema. They require to be punctual and respectful and of a friendly manner.
Travel details: This volunteering takes place in across SOUTH LANARKSHIRE excluding Rutherglen and Cambuslang.
