Volunteers help to reduce loneliness and enhance wellbeing for the tenants of Cowan Court extra-care housing development in Penicuik. Volunteer visitors host a small group of tenants to take part in activity or socialise and share common interests. This opportunity is for a volunteer to host a group specifically for male tenants who have interests such as sports and local history.

Experience required: Good listening and verbal communication skills
Ability to be inclusive, patient, and non-judgmental Punctual and reliable
A warm, friendly, and professional approach
Able to make conversation with new people
Respect for confidentiality
Confidence working with small groups
Willingness to adhere to the boundaries of the role
Willingness to maintain regular contact with Volunteer Services Manager
No previous experience is required; full training will be given
Travel details: Cowan Court is a 10 minute walk from stops for Lothian Buses 37, 47, 140 and Borders Buses X62

Expenses details: Out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed in line with the NHS Lothian Volunteer Expenses Policy.
Training details: Interactive virtual induction sessions prior to placement. Optional monthly training sessions are offered on a variety of themes and both informal and formal support is provided by a named person. Volunteers also receive regular newsletters.
