Description

The purpose of the role is to give girls opportunities for fun, friendship, challenge and adventure. You will support leaders to deliver Girlguiding programme activities with the girls during their meetings, including:
Supporting a safe girl-only space where girls can discover their full potential.
Supporting the delivery of an accessible and inclusive programme as set out by Girlguiding.
Completing relevant training for the role to develop your skills.

Organisation aims and objectives

Girlguiding encourages girls and young women to become actively involved in the world they live in. We are the biggest voluntary organisation for girls in the U.K. We have a well developed programme for training volunteers. The training is of a high standard and many skills developed are transferable to the workplace and beyond.

Units typically meet every week or fortnight during the school term. You may want to join each week but if that’s too much of a commitment, you can help out occasionally to suit your schedule.

Restrictions

Experience required: You will be given all the training and support you need to carry out your role but here are some skills and qualities you will need for starters: Good communication skills. Friendly and approachable. Reliable and trustworthy. Creative and enthusiastic.
Travel details: Our groups meet at many different locations throughout Edinburgh. We follow Scottish Government Coronavirus guidelines closely and adapt as circumstances evolve and restrictions change.

Expenses details: Expenses are paid in line with Girlguiding's expenses policy. Funding is available to help with membership fees - Personal financial circumstances are no barrier to joining Girlguiding!
Taster available: Yes
Training details: You will receive all the support and training you need to undertake your role. Here are some of the things we offer: An invitation to attend a welcome evening followed by an induction. Visits to units so you can see what it’s like! Ongoing support from other volunteers as well as the lead volunteer for your area.
