Description

Choose a Volunteer role and start your day knowing that you’re making a real difference to people’s lives. Feel the fulfilment of a rewarding role – working with a great team of people to support greater independence and creating more opportunities for people with learning disabilities and autism. In planting and maintaining the gardens, main tasks include:
Planting, pruning, sowing seeds and weeding.
Edging borders, digging, ground clearance and grass cutting.

Organisation aims and objectives

Real Life Options was first established in 1992 to support and empower people with learning disabilities and autism to have more choice and greater control over their lives. Over the last three decades, we have grown to become a national provider of social support and care while staying true to our core ethos. We support people across the UK to develop their independence and achieve their potential. We recognise that to be excellent in our field, we need to truly understand and champion the changing needs and aspirations of the people we support. Through partnerships with families, thought-leader organisations and professional services, we believe in constantly evolving and providing a person-centred approach at every step in an individual’s support journey.

Restrictions

Experience required: Previous gardening experience or gardening knowledge. Enthusiasm to work in the gardens and work with people who have learning disabilities. Moderate level of fitness.
Travel details: We have various services throughout Edinburgh including places nearby such as Bathgate, Uphall and Broxburn
Minimum age: 16

Taster available: Yes
Training details: We will provide classroom training and online training free of cost. Training will include including Health & Safety, Safeguarding, Food Hygiene, Equality & Diversity, Fire Safety, GDPR (Confidentiality), Infection Control,First Aid and Moving & Handling.
Support: Wheelchair Access/Disabled Access Toilet
