Description

We are looking for volunteers to support the Bethany Christian Centre staff team in giving quality support to residents in the evening. This includes tasks such as participating in recreational activities with residents and staff, cleaning and/or cooking duties as required and general administrative duties, including answering phones and taking messages.

Bethany Christian Trust is a national charity whose mission is to relieve the suffering and meet the long term needs of homeless and vulnerable people in Scotland. We share a big vision – to work together towards the aim of Ending Homelessness in Scotland. We support people in a broad range of ways including: housing, education and employment, addiction recovery, emotional well-being, street outreach, community integration, offending reduction and social support

Ideally volunteer on a weekly basis. 5pm to 9am. Starting no later than 9pm, spending time with the residents until later in the evening and sleeping accommodation provided overnight. Leaving at 9am.

Restrictions

Experience required: Volunteers should: Have experience of providing general support to vulnerable people. Be mindful of personal wellbeing and appropriate boundaries. Have an interest in and some understanding of homelessness, mental health issues, and addiction problems. Be of Christian faith, in agreement with the vision and values of Bethany, and able to show God’s love in action.

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Regular volunteers are entitled to claim up to £3.20 per day for travel expenses (£4.00 if multiple buses are required).
Training details: There is mandatory training that the volunteer must complete at induction, and additional training may become necessary going forward.
