Description

Dryburgh Athletic Community Club have over 350 players taking part in weekly football sessions. As this number continues to grow we are on the lookout for more volunteers to join us.

Players as young as three join the communuty club and we have both a boys and grils pathway. All our teams will train at least once a week and play games or festivals at the weekend.

All new volunteers will be asked to complete the club's PVG process which is handled by our Child Protection and Wellbeing Officer. Once this process is complete we will support the new volunteer and fund coaching badges, first aid courses and any other relevant qualifications required. Coaching kit will also be provided.

Organisation aims and objectives

At Dryburgh Athletic Community Club we provide footballing activities to children in the local area of Lochee in Dundee. Currently we have over 350 player taking part in weekly activity, with children as young at three joining the club. “The advancement of public participation in sport through the provision of facilities, coaching, training and opportunities initially and primarily related to football” (from the Dryburgh Constitution)

Taster details: Any new volunteer can come along and will meet with a member of the committee to discuss the process and to see where would best suit them to get involved
Training details: The new volunteer will be able to shadow sessions and supported by club development officer or by qualified and knowledgeable coaches already in place. Given the opportunity to gain SFA coaching badges

Caird Park Community Sports Hub and Dundee Active Schools in partnership run a Family Activity programme for families from the Stobswell area on a Wednesday between 5pm and 6pm at the DISC. Assistant Sports Coach

The Sports Development Team has priority sports to develop across the city. These priority sports are currently athletics, football, gymnastics, netball, tennis and trampolining. The team deliver term-time classes across the city in Leisure & Culture Dundee facilities (DISC, Douglas Sports Centre, Grove Swim & Sport, Harris Swim & Sport, Lynch Sports Centre, St Paul’s Swim & Sport) as well as at community centres and schools. There are also holiday programmes and events throughout the year. Volunteers can participate in programmes as assistant coaches, working alongside qualified coaches and receiving support from sports development officers. By providing volunteering opportunities within these programmes, the Sports Development Team aim to provide experience, development opportunities and increase employability.

Assisted Needs Sports Coach

Across schools in Dundee, Active Schools provide extra-curricular activities for children in primary and secondary schools. Focusing on sports and physical activity this can be children’s first experience of sports. With a focus on getting the inactive active, we are keen to provide children with an additional support need more opportunities for being physically active. With support from our staff we are looking for keen coaches to deliver sessions that include ASN children. This can be sport specific or even just fun games, we aim to give children opportunities they wouldn’t normal get access to.

Volunteer Sports/Physical Activity Coach - Beeslack High School

Supporting the delivery of sports/physical activity within a school/other venue. Sessions are based on the experience of the volunteer and the needs of the young people to encourage and promote a healthy life. Volunteers will work with an Active Schools Coordinator to support suitable activities within the current programme, offer encouragement to young people in pursuit of becoming more active, build the confidence of young people and promote the aims and objectives of Active Schools. Depending on experience, volunteers will be asked to support pre planned physical activity sessions whilst working in collaboration with the Active Schools Coordinator and other lead coaches. Volunteers can gain experience in developing responsibility for the organisation and delivery of physical activity sessions which target primary/secondary aged pupils. In accordance to current SportScotland guidelines, all volunteers are required to complete COVID Officer training (online module). All sessions delivered by Active Schools will have a designated COVID officer and although not essential, can be assigned to the volunteer role. However, this will be subject to volunteer preference and comfortability. *Please note, government restrictions may impact the number of weeks whereby the Active Schools programme is delivered. Our range of opportunities remain open to volunteers with little or no experience. All candidates will require reference and disclosure checks.
