Passionate about sustainable fashion? Do you love finding charity shop treasures? Do you have an eye for bringing tired clothing back to life as something new? Are you a dab hand on a sewing machine? Our Roots volunteers work behind the scenes to ensure our shops and clothing banks are stocked, our online shop and social media look amazing, and our mission reaches a wider audience. Departments and duties could be:

Sorting Space:
• Sort, steam, and prepare donations.
• Identify items to be sold in our online shop, added to our referral packs, or upcycled for our community Learn Workshops.
• Prep clothing for events, displays, and photographing.
• Sort, price, and package items to be sold in our Haberdasheries.
• Carry out basic textile repair e.g., zip replacement, seam mending. Only assigned to volunteers who feel comfortable doing so.

Social Media/Depop:
• Style and photograph clothing and textiles.
• Perform online research.
• Package and organise items to be shipped.
• Create website and social media content.

Administrative:
• Perform data entry tasks.
• Help prepare mailers and other promotional materials.
• Assist with event set up and coordination.

Organisation aims and objectives

R:evolve Recycle is the latest project to be brought to you by LEAP, which has been enhancing the lives of older people in South Lanarkshire since 1992. Servicing Cambuslang, Rutherglen and Hamilton, this innovative intergenerational project aims to cut C02e and waste by offering a range of services and activities which prolong the life of clothes and textiles We offer creative and exciting volunteering opportunities by sharing the skills and life experience of older people within the community, whilst bringing back a ‘make do and mend’ culture.

riday Shifts: Any length of time between 10:00am and 4:00pm Time Commitment: Minimum 2 shifts / Month Shift commitments are flexible and will be decided according to each volunteer’s availability and the needs of R:evolve.

Restrictions

Our Roots volunteers often work shifts in the absence of on-site staff assistance. As we do not have the facility to supervise younger volunteers, we do not want to put this responsibility on other volunteers. We require any person younger than 16 to volun
Experience required: • Friendly and enthusiastic. • Reliable and willing to commit to pre-agreed shifts. • Happy to work individually or with staff and other volunteers. • Confident in making decisions or able to ask others for help if needed. • Interest in the R:evolve principles of swapping, sharing, reusing, mending, and upcycling or keen to learn more about these. • Interest in climate change and environmentally friendly behaviours or keen to learn more about these.

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: R:evolve Recycle will pay for all reasonable out-of-pocket expenses, including travel, and pre-agreed upon materials purchase. If you volunteer for three hours or more, there is a small lunch allowance. Expenses are reimbursed via direct deposit upon submission of an approved expense form. Unfortunately, we cannot reimburse childcare expenses
Taster available: Yes
Training details: Roots volunteers are invited to attend 'experience days' where they shadow current volunteers during a typical shift. Staff-led Roots training is given over two 4-hour shifts, and covers an induction to the project, Roots procedures, and Health & Safety.
