Description

If you are a friendly, chatty and reliable person we are looking for you to provide a weekly or fortnightly social visit on a Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. Drop round for a cuppa and a chat. This person has an interest in HAM radio.
The veteran is visually impaired but does have some peripheral vision.

Organisation aims and objectives

Blind Veterans UK offer lifelong support to Armed Forces and National Service veterans - no matter what the cause of their sight loss, and regardless of how long they served. We help blind and vision impaired ex-Service personnel regain their independence and discover a life beyond sight loss.

Restrictions

Experience required: We are looking for a friendly, reliable and chatty volunteer who would enjoy supporting a visually impaired older person looking for social contact. The veteran has an interest in HAM radio, which could be an area of shared interest.
Travel details: This is a home visit in the Corstorphine area, Travel expense can be paid.
Minimum age: 18

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Agreed prior to the journey. There is a Volunteer Expense Form which will be authorised, then forwarded to finance. Then the expenses will be paid into the volunteers bank account once a fortnight.
Training details: The induction will include information on the organisation and volunteer policy and procedures, befriending, health & safety, lone working. There will be regular support with the Volunteer Coordinator . Additional training from the organisations will come up now and the, for example blind guiding etc.
