Why volunteer with Shelter Scotland?

Home is a human right. It's our foundation and it's where we thrive. Yet, every day millions of people are being devastated by the housing emergency.

We exist to defend the right to a safe home. Because home is everything.

We’re passionate about what we do, and love giving second-hand clothing a chance of going to a good home. Our shop teams ensure fighting the housing emergency never felt so fun.

Organisation aims and objectives

Our Shelter Scotland services, policy & research and campaign teams come together to create the best possible outcomes for people in housing need. We do this by providing practical support and advice to people experiencing bad housing or homelessness, by informing professionals, and by campaigning for legislative change. Volunteers are so important to Shelter and help us to support far more people experiencing homelessness and bad housing, whether you support our clients directly or raise vital funds in our shops. We really value the contribution of volunteers, and want to make sure that volunteering is a positive experience for you as well! It can help you to meet new people and develop new skills, as well as being enjoyable. It can also improve your health - research has shown that volunteering can reduce your chance of getting a number of major health conditions. It can help you to get a new job too - 80% of employers said they're more likely to hire someone who has volunteering experience on their CV.
