Build your experience and share your skills as a Chair Person for Headway South Lanarkshire. This role is vital to help us run the work that we do to support and provide information for people with brain injury, their families and carers.

Duties: The role is varied and may include the following:
Planning the annual cycle of board meetings and set the agendas; chairing and facilitating the board meetings; giving directions to board policy making; monitoring that decisions taken at board meetings are implemented; representing the organisation at appropriate events, meetings or functions; acting as a spokesperson for the organisation where appropriate; attend monthly board meetings, participate in other tasks as they arise from time to time, such as interviewing new staff, helping with fundraising; keep informed about the activities of the organisation and wider issues which affect its work.

The meetings will be held online and then face to face when appropriate.

We will provide training so you can learn new skills and you will be able to attend regional meetings for peer support and a friendly social aspect.

Organisation aims and objectives

Headway exists to promote understanding of all aspects of brain injury and to provide information, support and services to people with a brain injury, their family and friends. A weekly group is held with various activities taking place from support groups to fun days out. Members receive help and support in coping with life, find out what local services are available and share in the emotional rollercoaster that goes with brain injury.

Parkinson's UK Aberdeen Branch are looking for a person interested in becoming the Chairperson of the Aberdeen Branch of Parkinson's UK. The Chairperson’s role is to oversee the meetings and to be aware of the issues that can affect the smooth running of the various therapy sessions that exist to help and support people with Parkinson's Disease. The chairperson for the most part introduces the speakers at the monthly social event (these last no more than two hours). The social event takes place normally on Thursdays at 2pm. The Aberdeen Branch has organised several different therapy sessions, including physiotherapy; alternative therapies such as reflexology and facial massage; dancing for Parkinson’s; a very popular singing group; a carers’ group; and a Young People’s group. Efforts are also being made to re-institute sessions of hydrotherapy in an alternative location. Finally, there is a monthly social event with talks by invited speakers, and occasional lunch events too. The committee numbers over a dozen, with roles in assisting in the administration and running of these therapy sessions. There is a volunteer secretary and a volunteer treasurer too and they all give the chairperson valuable support. The committee meets on Wednesdays at 12 noon every month with meetings lasting one and a half hours on average, although there are usually no meetings in July due to a summer recess. The meetings deal with issues of finance, feedback from the various therapy groups, and looking at providing further means of support for those with Parkinson’s. All meetings involving the Chairperson take place in the Craigiebuckler Church, recently re-named the Springfield Parish Church, 185 Springfield Road Aberdeen AB15 8AA. As independent charities, each Sea Cadet unit has trustees to oversee the management and legal undertakings of the unit. This role will undertake “regulated activity” and will therefore require an enhanced disclosure with barring check to be repeated at no less than three yearly intervals. The primary purpose of the chairperson is to maintain, develop and chair an effective unit management team (UMT) that supports the unit and meets the aims of the Sea Cadet experience. The secondary purposes of the unit chairperson are: · To ensure that all the unit’s activities and matters are conducted legally and comply with charity regulations and Marine Society and Sea Cadets (MSSC) policy and procedures. · To ensure the general welfare, safety and protection of volunteers and cadets when they are involved in unit matters or activities. · Encouraging cadet forum participation and where appropriate a cadet presence at UMT meetings and unit Annual General Meetings. · In conjunction with the UMT, to provide a properly maintained, serviced, safe and secure unit premises and property, that is either loaned or owned by the unit. · In conjunction with the UMT and advised by the CO/OiC to provide where possible the resources necessary for efficient and successful training in the unit. · To ensure, in consultation with the DO and AO that the unit has a suitable and effective CO/OiC and trained volunteers to meet unit needs. · To identify unit priorities and potential issues and in conjunction with the UMT develop and maintain plans to address those issues.
